Members, Positive thinking can be a powerful weapon in any quit but what if you were never one to look at the glass half full? 10 Questions for Challenging Negative Thoughts The following 10 questions will help you to challenge any negative thought. When you have a negative thought, try to answer these 10 questions: Whats the evidence that the thought is true? Whats the evidence that the thought is not true? What is the worst possible thing that could happen and how would you cope if it did happen? Whats the best possible thing that could happen? What would most likely happen and how would you cope if that happened? Whats another way of thinking about this situation? What else could be going on? What would you tell a friend of yours if they were in this situation and had the same negative thought? Whats the effect of believing the negative thought? What would happen if you didnt believe the negative thought? What are some alternative thoughts in this situation? Please feel free to share your tips on keeping positive! Sylvie, Moderator

anxioux1 If you look more closely at the thread I think you'll find that you do not have too much to worry about. In any case, Terry is right, it is a choice. If you want to be happy, be. - Leo Tolstoy Penitent

Everybody, shout WOOHOO!!! You can't feel bad when you're shouting WOOHOO!! It got me through my first 120 days, and the odd looks from people at work, on the train & at random places throughout the city, well that was just a bonus. Try it, it works. Really. Yes I read the post also. But you are going to be so healthy, and smelling so GOOD NOW. I noticed after just a few days.. a little wheeze I had when I was going to sleep.. IT's GONE. Mt tongue and mouth feel so much better. I can understand where you are coming from. Think of all the good things... many many more than the bad .... I love Terry's "Happy Happy, Joy Joy.." it is on some commercial ....also My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/10/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 11 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 187 Amount Saved: $29.45 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 16 Mins: 43 Seconds: 4

thanks, I am feeling a little better now. It is a very negative part of my personality that has always done this to me, ever since I was little. I should explain a little I guess. I was adopted as an infant, and by three months of age, my father was diagnosed with brain tumors...then eventually Lukemia which took his life when I was nine. I grew up living in a situation where death was always at your back door. Nobody did this intentionally, but its just the way it was. I have brought that into my adult life, being that I realize nobody is immune from tragedy. I guess I wait for it. My mother is wonderful and exactly opposite of me, she has always brought me up from my downs, even now at 35 when she really probably needs me. thanks for responding, I had gotten taken away right after my post and am so thankful for the quick responses even though I didn't get to see them right away. Thanks again.. Anxious, I know the post you're talking about and it is sad, but I'm hoping we can all take something positive from it as well. You have life ahead of you and you're lungs are pretty happy at the moment, even though you're not feeling the same way. Do something different to change your train of thought, and know that a nice smoke free spring is just around the corner. Anxious, Don't let this affect you negatively. Think of all of the positive benefits you have seen since you quit. You're doing very well in your quit and you have made tremendous progress since day one. You hit your 75th day smoke free yesterday which deserves a little bit of a reward. Start to focus on some ways that you can reward yourself for a fantastic quit. Brenna, Bilingual Health Educator

Hello Anxious1, I haven't seen the post you are talking about but I do know that you can choose at any moment to go in a different direction than you are going. Stop and take a deep breath and then think "Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy" Are you familiar with Ren and Stempy? Pretty funny stupid stuff. I hope you are feeling better. I read the bumped post by Joe Cool. It was very sad and has effected me in more of a negative way than what its intent was. I have OCD and anxiety/panic disorder and things like this always get me rolling in the wrong direction. Panic..this will be me, its too late, I am doomed. I try SO HARD to not do this, but my brain always wins. I just need somebody to say something happy. Please!!
