Hi Katie,
If you are a student at U of T you may get counselling for free. You need to go the the Psychiatric Department at the Koffler Centre (St. George & College St.) You may want to call in advance to arrange for an appointment. However, if you are having real difficult time you can show up and they will try to get someone on call you see you on the spot. I know this because I got to see a spychiatrist while I was a student at U of T.
Best of luck.
Dear Members,
It is great to see everyone networking through this site.
I am very familiar with the mental health division in Hamilton offered through St. Joseph's Health Care. I do know that this is a great program, there is a lot of success with this program. Your family physician would surely point you in the right direction.
Hope this helps,
Take Care,
Melanie

I am also from Toronto... I'll give a brief history.
I went to people for years trying to find out what the problem was and finally a family friend told me to see a specialist in anxiety.. I was accepted at MacMaster in Hamilton(I was releived). They put me on Clexa(limited side effects). I feel I have only been helped in a small way, I finally found some help whay I decided to get CBT on the side which I pay for.. It is so expensive though.... it should be free as it is the only thing that has ever helped.. My anxiety is very bad and could go on and on about it..
Hi:
I have just seen someone at the Clarke Institute (which is in Toronto on College st.) for an appointment to start group sessions in CBT starting this spring. It's a 12 week course. You will need a referral from your doctor to see someone there. Also, if you check the website for the CMHA closest to you, they have resources for anxiety and may have a number to contact for other anxiety groups. I myself haven't looked into this last route yet, but plan to soon! Good luck.
Hi Katie:
I am also from Toronto, Canada, and also just got an appt. at St. Josephs Hospital Anxiety clinic in Hamilton. Katie, I went to the Toronto General Hospital to their Anxiety Clinic years ago. At that time they were Psycologists but worked on a sliding scale. You paid what you could afford. I think you have to be referred by your dr. there as well. Ask your dr. about it, maybe its closer to you.
Good Luck
Carol

Hope you are well!!!!
If you have Msn drop me your contact and I'll add you to my list... it'd be nice to talk to someone nearby me!

Hi Katie,
I live in the Toronto Candada are and have recently been accepted to St. Joe's in Hamilton for the anxiety clinic there, it is free. Your doctor has to refer you and it may take a month to 3 months to get a spot because there is a waiting list. I just got in and I applied in Oct. They have an area that specializes in panic and anxiety. I told my doctor I wanted to be reffered to a psyciatrist because I could not afford the high psycologist bills. Psyciatrists are coverd by Ohip. You can go the website macanxiety.com or .ca not sure which. It is mcmaster university in Hamilton. Not sure but I think they have one of the same clinics at the hospitals in T.O you might want to call around. Hope that helps.
Hi Katie,
I worked in family practice for many years. We were part of one of the new Ontario Primary Care Networks that had mental health counsellours right on site. Their services were covered. I would suggest that you discuss your options with your family doctor. Hopefully they can refer you to somewhere that is covered, especially since as you say, you have been seeing progress in yourself. If they do not have any suggestions for you, you may want to try checking with any local mental health clinics to see if they have any suggestions. (You may then need a referral from your family doctor to access their services.) These clinics may be located in the community or as part of a local hospital. Unfortunately I am not familiar with Toronto, but I will check with the other moderators for you.
Casey
