Swimming It is really really hard to smoke when you are in a pool of water. As I swam I saw results immediately I was encouraged and I could swim farther and farther. As I could breath with more ease. Keeping myself in an environment where there is no smoking. Easy to find and sometimes not so easy to stay focused, oh well. And it is really hard for me to rush out of a movie, an art gallery, a museum and still have the crave there. I pick a very large building and it takes five minutes to just get to an exit and by that time the crave is gone. There is no smoking in my house, garden, yard, car, office, easy to stay in the kitchen and cook up a great meal or a fantastic dessert, easy to stay in the garden digging and digging. Distraction Cooking and more cooking and more cooking. I never smoked when I cooked and there is always something to do in making a great meal so I get distracted by what I am creating and my mind can focus on that rather than focus on when the next puff will hit. Reading in this site and reading and reading and reading there is so much here that I could read for another couple of hundred days. Great thread Rusty there could be great information here. dispell the 'i want a cigarette thought' from your mind. Train yourself to expell this thought as soon as you feel it coming on & think about something else, anything else. it will eventually become automatic, you will no longer get a chance to think of 'i want a cigarette'

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

You know, it's amazing you should ask because here I am looking at one year smoke free in about a week and I came so close to slipping tonite. A friend of my husbands' still smokes, (outside, or in the outside screened porch, of course,) and I noticed earlier today that he had put out several cigarettes in one of my plants that were onl,y about 1/4 to 1/2 smoked. Now why, after a year, did I notice/remember that? And why tonite, after a couple glasses of wine, did I go to take the poochy out and suddenly remember those damned partial cigs? Well, I am so pleased to say that something worked in my favour because I am now tippy-tap typing on this site instead of smoking those 3/4 butts outside, just hoping to justify my actions. mc My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/31/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 361 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,415 Amount Saved: $1444 Life Gained: Days: 35 Hrs: 3 Mins: 0 Seconds: 49

Okay, so I'm enjoying a Drumstick while i'm tippy-tap typing. A couple hundred calories beats the slippery slope of slip-smoking anyday!!! mc
I would be on such a tight budget. I would choose cigs over food when it came down to it, and it did. can you believe it!!!
I certainly can, Kat. Years ago during a pretty bad economic slump I had been out of work for several months, unemployment insurance was about to run out, and I was living in a fleabag hotel with one small bathroom for the entire floor. Had to give my tools (since I didn't need them right then, anyway) as collateral on rent. I went for three days without food, just drinking enough water out of the drinking fountain in the lobby to knock the edge off the hunger pains, because I had no money. But I had cigs. Had bought a carton before the money ran completely out to make sure I had enough to get me through until the next unemployment check. Hey! Look at you!! Done finished your 3rd week smoke-free. How awesome is that!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!! :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) ;) Keep up the good quit, Kat! Great Food for Thought Rusty......The one thing that has saved my quit from day one is realizing that the immediate craving for a cig will only last just a few minutes......All the other times I had quit, I would crave and I would grab a smoke.....like it was the "end of the world if I didnt smoke one" This site told me over and over......It only last a while....deal with it! Eventually, I got stronger than any crave........... To this very day, if I think I might like a cig, I just take a few deep breaths and wait about 5 minutes and then I go on with my life.......Life is so good without cigs!
