Hi,
Odd to see GABA in this topic. It was just this morning I was reading my prescription packet about my Xanax and found it contained the word GABA. It said "Xanax works by enchancing the effects of a certain natural chemaical found in the body called GABA. Supposed to have a calming effect. I would like to know more about this as well after see'ing it listed and hearing of supplements that have it. Any info you find let us know!
Hi Sharia,
I use some herbal supplements that I have found greatly reduce my symptoms. They dont claim to stop PAs or anxiety I just take it for help with stress because stress depletes so much from our bodies and since anxiety/PA sufferers are always on "high alert" normal stress knocks us for a loop.
Since you and your Doc decided on a course of medication and you are going to work this out, you might like to get "Hope and Help for Your Nerves" by Claire Weekes.
As for info on new things I usually go to Dr. Andrew Weils site (i use his breathing exercises Sound Body/Sound mind).
Hope this helps
Thanks Melanie. I'm not so much questioning my doctor, but maybe myself. The course of treatment my doc and I arrived at was klonopin as needed and me just working this out. I tried Paxil but it made me worse. I am not a fan of drugs so I only take the klonopin as a last resort. I was looking for something natural that may help me. I done some research on GABA, but didn't find enough to satisfy me as to safety. Most of the time I don't have full blown panic attacks, just can go on for weeks on edge and generally don't feel well. All tests the doc did say I'm ok and she tells me to just go on with my life. I'm just trying to find a way to help myself feel normal again so I can do just that.
Sharia,
Before investing in any supplement, please investigate the information.
From your posting it sounds like you are questioning your doctor - if you are unsure of their actions or purpose, your pharmacist can be a really great resource to find the information you are looking for.
Please keep us posted.
Melanie
