Anybody quit smoking and lose weight?

for 16 år siden 0 577 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0

I gained over 35 pounds....it was foul, I had never in all my smoking years been overweight. You just got to bite the bullet and change your habits. Join  a gym. I joined Curves and committed myself to it and it worked. I've lost 28 pounds and am working on the rest. You just got to change your life and your habits and the great thing is that you start to enjoy the difference. Good luck, Lilly

Hey DJ,
I did exercises every time I wanted a smoke the first and second day I quit.  I had to keep busy so I walked my boys ragged the first few days.  You can do it and stay close to here and we all will help you through also!!  Im glad to hear you are going to try again.  I will feel a ton better - especially after the first week and I just finished my 2nd week and feel even better!!

Ivhad quit when Patrick quit, started excerising and still gain. Scared myself because I have really over weigh
sisters and a brother. So couldn't think about being that way. Now I have two days to go and am trying it again.
I really don't want to smoke so have to find a way to do both. Alot of stress going on here,so thanks for all the
advice. DJ

Smoke (nicotine) speeds up metabolism.  When you stop smoking, your metabolism will slowly (over months) decline and that is why people gain some weight even if they do not change eating habits.  Like you, I exercise a lot but still put on 4 lbs (164 from 160)  after I had quit 4 months.  Still feel so much better, though and I would not EVER think smoking is a good way to loose weight.

I am still a newbie and really surprised to have not gained any weight.....I quit once before for over two years and didnt gain any then either, I think this is mostly to do with lots of gum chewing and lots of lengthy gym sessions! I have always been a gym bunny but since I quit have gone from struggling to jog 2 miles to being on the treadmill for an hour and running for 7 miles (this is just my warm up!!), and I love being able to really see how my health is improving in such a short space of time!! However, even if i did gain weight, then at least I would not be smoking......better to gain weight and have healthy lungs and heart than be a skinny smoker killing myself!!

Hi all, thought I would chime in even though I'm still considered a newbie here.  The first weekend I quit I ate EVERYTHING in my house.  But this past weekend I swore never to do that again and have eaten only healthy foods since.  My friend joined WW so I snagged her book and basically got food ideas out of it.  I now eat 6 mini meals (like every two hours) and I'm never hungry AND I've lost 4 pounds since Saturday when I started it.  I literally eat when I'm hungry and I loose weight cause I'm eating so much better than even before my quit.  Tonight I start exercising with the workout ball (not sure what its officially called but its a huge ball).  I'm determined to not gain anything more and even lose.  I'm redirecting my cravings from smoking to eating healthy and working out.  Go figure I could actually do that :-)

What are some other things that people have done in order to remain active (or become active) during their quit?
