My heart is full.  Thank you all for the support and your love and caring.  I went in this morning and changed my quit date and that was a hard reality check for me.  My friend those added up days do count, hold them tight.  That being said this is what I am doing.  I am reading Allen Carr's book (again) and I am going to though the tools on the left and will be a non smoker by next week-end.  I am also keeping tack of what this quit has cost me, not in time, but it really does to one mentally.

I had no idea how many of you have I touched.  I told my husband about all the support and loving concern I received from all of you.  Each and everyone of you rock.  There are way to many of you to thank personally for fear of forgetting someone, but I read each post and everyone of you touched my heart.  You all make it possible for me to come back and begin again.

Keep the Quit
Sparky

Hi, Sharon... I hope that you'll stay in here during your hiatus because you're been such a great supporter to others. Besides, being online everyday will keep your head pointed in the direction of freedom from cigarettes and we want to see you helping newbies the way you've always done.  Set your Quit meter to "minus 365" or some other figure and let us know how your preparation is going ...

I think one thing we learn over and over.   This is an addiction.. it started out maybe as a "social" habit to fi in with our friends or ???   When most of us started smoking  it was socially acceptable, the health issues and addiction were Not known or if so they were not freely out there.    Ads were on TV and magazines.. everywhere.  Non smoking sections of resturants were very small.....   Over the last ???? years the illness, addiction and social stigma is all out.. What once was "fashionable" "sexy" is now the totally opposite.

Most TV shows now there is no smoking,  but I have been noticing how many movies have smoking in them.

So we have gone thru such a  transformation to being "socially acceptable"  to a "pariah"  from being out in the open to made to hide around corners, next to dumpsters

I'm Happy to see how much help and support is aavailable.

We should Not Be embaarrassed or made to feel like criminals..     Nicotine is a drug.    It was socially acceptable... it was given to our soldiers in their rations.. Ads were everywhere on TV..   We were  charmed ,   and then addicted.. for big $$$$
to the tobacco companies.. but also government taxes.....

We can and are fighting this addiction,   and I am glad our children are learning the truth....

This is going to take some time... an unfortunately.... a hard road for us who are addicted

We are here for each other..   one minute, one hour, one day to reach out, hold hands and jump for joy.

Dear Sparky, I AM SO VERY SORRY. I am horrified that you for one second even thought I was saying I was disappointed in you or that for one second I am somehow making you responsible for my quit. The courage you showed in saying goodbye to everyone, and how you are still trying to take care of other people and make sure others stay strong in their quit is so AWESOME. If I had any idea that it sounded like it does to you I NEVER, NEVER, would have said it. Just please, please know that was not what I meant to say at all. I do hope you stay here until you are ready, and I hope you will let the "elders" in the quit assist you. I also hope to keep my own mouth shut until I can much better learn to say what I mean. I do have so much respect for you and I do think it is one of the greatest show of strength to let others know what is going on with you rather than just slipping off. Please again I ask your forgiveness. I am the one who is sorry.
Always,
Deb (pupikat)

Hey you!  Glad you said something but it didn't surprise me.  My first quit wayyyyyyyy back when Marie quit was the exact same way as you stated, I thought about it all the time and my ex used to rub it in my face (he smoked and still smokes).  All I needed was one excuse and that excuse was when I found out I had major health problems.  BUT I got back on the wagon as soon as JLady and you and some others yelled (and loved me) at me to quit again.  I did and still am smoke free.  I will admit, it is easier this time because I had other things to consume my thought (like beating this health problem which I have!)  I am now loosing the weight that all the meds I've been on didn't help with.

I do have one question though, just because you are off the wagon until next time, does this mean we dont get to see each other when you visit your daughter?  Smoking or not, I still would love to see you!!  Please keep in touch and always know we are here for you no matter what.

Hugs my dear friend

Cheermom/Kim

Sharon, I love you and we all love you. And people who love each other forgive each other's little weaknesses, and help each other forgive ourselves and move on.  When I read this thread, it is just amazing the outpouring of love and strength that I feel. I hope you can latch onto that love and strength to pull yourself up.  Regardless of what new folks might write here, you are not responsible for anyone else's fear or doubts.  Please don't go there.  You are awesome and as I told you before....our friendship now has nothing to do with smoking or non-smoking. You are YOU, a dear, kind and supportive person who we love.
