And I was so certain chicken nugget disrespect was on the list of acceptable excuses!  Good thing I haven't got any kids yet...

HP,

Good for you for not caving. I'm coming up on my 2 year anniversary of quitting and can tell you for a fact that each day that passes without a smoke, the clearer the wisdom of quitting becomes. Oh and the desire does not only weaken with time..it goes away.

CONGRATULATIONS!

Penitent,

Great post! There really isn't a good reason to have a cigarette. The reality of addiction often wins when faced with these situations so it's important to keep your coping skills handy at all time.

Yes, exactly!

I just noticed, further down your post, the one about the rain storm. Trees bending, rain lashing.
It struck me that as a smoker, I would have been out IN the storm smoking! Weren't we all so ridiculous?

Hi HP,

No matter how persuasive the mind or how crazy the resulting reasons, they all become lame when weighed against stark reality – except perhaps the nuggets!!

Pen,

PS Glad you got sorted yesterday!

Hmmmm, I don't know, Pen.
In my book that one about the Chicken McNuggets might qualify.
 ;)

This is quite insightful. There are any number of reasons that we would have smoked before. Now we know smoking changes NOTHING.  If I started to smoke again, McNuggets wouldn't fall from the sky and I would be stinky to boot!

I had a minor meltdown yesterday. I didn't want to smoke but had no idea how to handle it but I came here to post for suggestions. Got a great answer right away! And there you have it.

Thank you for this post. So true.

It was 3.00 in the morning, we had a power cut, it was dark and I was scared there was someone in the house

The wife ran off with the local hunk and now I feel inadequate.

My children disrespected me because we'd run out of chicken nuggets

The dog's got distemper and it's all my fault.

A truck has just driven into the side of the house and the roof is about to fall off.

My mum told me I'm ugly – looking in the mirror, she's probably right!

I got straight C's and now life's not worth living.

My favourite TV show has been taken off air and I just can't cope with the emptiness it has left behind.

The book I'm currently reading is missing the last 3 pages and I'm beside myself with worry about the outcome.

Someone stole my car and drove it into the river, I'm still paying on it and I'm not insured

My SO doesn't love me any more and I could cry.

The best band the world has just broken up and it's just not fair.

The worst storm ever just blew in, rain was lashing, trees were falling and I thought I was gonna die.

Just one – I deserve it!

They haven't all appeared here but most of them have!!

Whatever the reason it just ain't good enough!
