Escanaba is in what they call the UP. ( Upper Michigan) You would have had to go a little more south and west to reach my stomping grounds. The whole area is beautiful if you like the woods, rivers, etc. though. The Lake Michigan bay is a great area and yes the perch is excellent.
Also, I think that Alohakei suggested the name for our group. I remember a post from her way back with the No-ember suggestion. I think Natalie jumped on it and here we are. Anyway, I'm a little off topic here, so I will once again say
CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!! ML on reaching your 1 year.

Jim - Thanks for your concern about my keeping the cigarettes. Oh, I know they're old, probably dried out and would taste nasty but I really don't intend to smoke them. As I wrote, they are my talisman. As long as they are in the house, I know I won't be tempted at all to smoke. If they're not, well, I don't know. I was a hardcore smoker for 50 years or more and this quit is very important to me, so I'm using a crazy coping method but it's working. It's the first real try I made to quit and if I made it this far, I'm probably a non-smoker, albeit a superstitious one.
Moss - I wish I were talented enough to knit you that coat. I used to sew, maybe I could take that up again. I hope you find the coat of your dreams. You certainly deserve it for being such a wonderful support to all of us here. BTW, I always get it mixed up, when my husband and I did our cross-country trip by car, we went up the middle of Michigan into the UP then down around Lake Michigan. We stopped at Escanaba for the night. Is that in Wisconsin or MI? We were in a motel on Lake Michigan Bay and had lake perch for dinner. That night and that place have stayed in my memory for over 20 years. It was just beautiful - and the perch was out of this world.
Natalie - You named us and we have to live up to is. No-Embers. I've taken it to heart.
Again, thanks to everyone here, I wouldn't have made with it without you all.
