Plans You Say...

Stormy,
You are so right about how quitting smoking changes how we deal with things in life that don't quite go our way.  I think often when these events happen, boy this would be one of those days I'd really want a cigarette.  It's almost like we thought smoking would be a way to get back at life for the pain it brought onto ourselves. Now that we are smoke free we are needing to relearn how to watch the feeling of unhappiness or unease without having to respond in a way that is not good for us.  As you said it does absolutely nothing to change the situation.  I've found that even over eating, drinking, coffee, and even some pharmaceuticals can all be used in this way also.  All I can say is that I commend you for coming to understand this for your 918+ days of being smoke free, and speaking about it to all of us that will or are going thorough some change in what we are expecting.  One other thing that I think might be interesting to do is to look back a year or two from now and see if maybe the plans that did not happen might have been the best decision for you looking back in hindsight.
Ron

Without going into details, I will just say that I have truly learned that it doesn't matter how well you plan something, life has a way of taking its' own path. Every thing we planned very carefully since Nov. seemed to have backfired, and I would remember back when I smoked and thought to myself, "Yep, this would have definitely been a smoking moment". I have moved on now, and I see situations differently. First, life in itself can be challenging at times, so why complicate it even more by inhaling all those toxins. Second, I like to be the one in control, not the junkie chatter. Smoking would not have reversed my plans back, nor would it have made the situations go any smoother.
I live life now without that "need a smoke" issue thing darting back and forth in my head and pulsing throughout my entire body. I love my life! I am calmer, healthier, and most importantly, I am smoke-free!
Each one of us are shining examples to others. We are not here just to "talk the talk", because we also have "walked the walk". We have all been there, we understand the difficulties, and we lift others up, by our own example. Encouragement can definitely go further than you can imagine. Way to go guys!
