Angie mentioned smoking in movies on another thread and I had to laugh to myself. A few days ago, I wasn't feeling well and decided to watch a movie on the boob tube - Return to Peyton Place, made, I think, in 1961. My lord, the smoking that went on in that movie was beyond belief. As I sat there watching it, I remembered how it was, everybody and their brother and sister smoked everywhere, all the time. I never tried to quit smoking before, well, once, but my heart wasn't really in it. My wake up call came when I saw all the cigarette butts in the ashtray of cigarettes that had been lit but not smoked. As I counted them, I calculated how much money had gone up in smoke, so decided that I would quit and quit I did. Fortunately, a member of another MB I belong to mentioned SSC and I came here about a month and some days after my Q date, which was Thanksgiving 2007. Anyway, to make a long story even longer
and back to the origin of this thread, I found that the incessant smoking did not tempt me one bit. Oh, at first it caught me off-guard and possibly, maybe, there was a slight crave, but by the end of the movie, I knew (hope) that I will never smoke again.
