Hmmm....no I didn't know that. My grandfather though smoked a pipe into his 50s and 3 years ago he had to have triple bypass and a valve replaced. He hadn't smoked for 30 years. Sad but true some damage is already done. Sooner you quit the better.

Have you heard 99% of people whose aorta ruptures were past or present smokers? The aorta is the main artery of the body, extending from the heart through the abdominal area branching downward through the legs. 90% of people whose aorta ruptures are dead upon arrival at the hospital.
Half of the 10% who make it into the operating room survive the surgery to repair it. Which means that 95% of all those who suffer a rupture aorta die.
I know this because this happened to my father at age 90. He was a 50 year on and off again smoker until he was 65 and he hadn’t smoked for 20 to 25 years. He was in ICU for 35 days, came down with phenomena while there however survived.
I knew that one could develop lung cancer years after they quit, however I hadn’t heard about increased rupture aorta risk.
