Printing this site on every pack of cigs... hrmmm... What an interesting idea. Canada always inserts the disclaimers, the kid pretending to smoke by the mom that smokes, etc. Time to write to the government? Rock, care for another letter to a politician, I see that you wrote Obama a while back inviting him to the group?
Angie, this is your quit, and it is easier to get encouragement from this group here that is going through the same thing. I get the same, my wife doesn't smoke, she has a hard time understanding what I am going through. Keep kicking the ash!

I know what you are talking about Angie, people can be cruel without meaning to. I say that because we know what it takes to stay away from smoking and the self control we have to find in us at the beginning of the quit. Outsiders have no idea.
When I stopped I wanted to tell everyone about my quit but I realized that peoples reaction wasn't doing me any good and putting in my mind doubt if I would be able to continue smokeless... The impression we have is that no one believes us.
I don't know why but outsiders tend to make you feel week when you talk about your quit...I know it is not their intention but it is what happens.
Be proud of your self! You and just you are the one that matters when its about your quit.
We here at SSC know what you are going trough and we are proud of you!
Stopping to smoke is a lonely trip...not all that lonely...we are here!

Quitting can be a very lonely experience for some of us. Inside it can be so exciting to be kicking that Nicodemon and it can sometimes feel like a letdown when people respond the way they are doing. But I'll tell you something that happened to me when I quit. After a month or so I found that many family members that had really bugged me always when I was a smoker all of a sudden didn't bug me as much anymore. I'm not quite sure the reason but I have a suspicion that smoking lowers your confidence and chemically it makes you much more impatient with others. I will bet that as you get further quit you will show much more confidence and others will pick up the change also. You also will probably connect much better with these family members in due time. Whatever they say don't give it too much attention because you are doing too well to let it affect your quit.

Sometimes nonsmokers just don't realize how difficult quitting can be and how much their support can mean. It sounds like your cousin is trying to be involved...it may have sounded more like she was questioning you, but I bet she was just trying to share the experience in some way.
I don't know your personal circumstances, but for me, I didn't tell anyone in the beginning because I knew they would think I would fail like I had in the past. Now that so much time has passed, I get some good encouraging words from those people. They are surprised, but very happy for me. I know others tell everyone because they want to be held accountable.
Regardless of how anyone around you reacts, you should be VERY proud of yourself...and when you need someone else to be proud of you and praise your hard work, we're here to offer that. Two weeks is GREAT!!

I am having a problem with telling people I have quit. I told no one before hand of my plans to quit. There is one reason why.... NO ONE BELIEVES ME!!! When I told my sister I had been smoke free for 2 weeks she rolled her eyes and said "Good Luck" in a tone of voice that distinctly said "Yeah right". When my cousin (who has been a great support) pulled up when I was outside playing with the dogs she asked "Do I need to smell your fingers?" My grandmother who believes cigarettes are delivered to gas stations by the devil himself skimmed right over the topic when I proudly announced it to her. What gives???
