 Mac and cheese does taste great, and everything else we eat, but just know don't matter what you eat it will not replace a smoke, i have also packed on a few in the past few years, the time will come that you will get tired of the weight and you will use the same determination to quit eating that you used for the quit ,alot of us ride this roller coaster with you , and know you are not hopeless, take care of yourself :)  Tresa

Yeah,,,and that`s not the worst of it. I eat a pkg of McVitties digestives every 4 days. I love them and I fear they are my new cigs, Every time I get a crave its KD and then a couple of digestives with a huge glass of orange juice. I am hopeless, I cannot change my habits at all, it`s that or cigs.

Thank you so much Deb. And what about your six months quit? You are doing great. Remember that you can loose the weight but you can't grow a new lung or heart for yourself! So be positive. You already quit smoking; the weight issue is really easy to tackle compared to the nicotine addiction!

Have you tried popcorn? It is salty and a whole bag is like 250 cal. (the light butter one). You get your salt fix and your comfort food fix.
Maybe you need some relaxation techniques or a discipline like yoga. And I have found that the more physical activity I get the less food cravings I have. Excercise releases dopamine,one of the feeling good hormones in our brain. So less need of
comfort food!
Insted of having 3 big meals try to even distribute them in 5 meals so your sugar levels don't drop.Another reason for junk food cravings.
I don;t know. I have had mine but I had found substitutes, like instead of vainilla icecream I can have a weightwatchers frozen yogurt. I can have a weight watchers ice cream bar , or sugarfree jello.
I try to eat plenty of vegetables; my dressing is balsamic vinager; it is sweet and tangy. I make creams of vegetables with lowfat milk and fatfree evaporated milk instead of cream; I add a potato as a thckening agent. I enjoy experimenting with fresh herbs. I'm partial to rosemary (grilled salmon is great with this) and basil and chives.
You can play with your food and make it tempting; they are a lot of lowfat and low sugar substitutes available, but I guess it is
the same as with smoking. You have to commit yourself to make one small change at a time. If you do it gradually you will succeed..
I did that when I lost 100 pounds as a teenager, and I have kept it since;small changes, baby steps and you can change your mental approach towards food!

Macaroni and cheese is Kraft dinner and when you buy microwavable it is so cheesy and salty.I have tried all the good snacks but get so bored with it my mind wanders back to cigs. It`s not good for my health problems but as with cigs I have the same attitude,,,I don`t care I just want it,,, kinda 6 of 1, half dozen of the other.

HI B!! me and you both- I gained 42 pounds, and for the last 12 weeks have been at Weight Watchers and lost 24 pounds so at least I am on the downward track now.
I dont know what KD is as we dont have it here- so I can't help, but I would guess with your heart and cholestrol meds, the extra weight is not good?
I just had to be absolutely confident that my quit was in hand before I even began to think about tackling the weight, as I knew I could not channel my energies into both. So once I was fairly confident that the quit was ok, I looked at my losing weight options.
One thing I did find is that if anyone commented on my weight gain and I said oh I quit smoking, then they were saying things like 'Oh well, quitting smoking is more important' and that kind of justified my out of control eating! did you have anything happen like that?
Anyway keep us posted what you decide to do, but for now enjoy the KD :)

Gaining weight when quitting smoking is a common concern. However not everyone gains weight after quitting. Some people do, but usually only five or six pounds.

Two things seem to cause this weight gain. First, your body metabolism slows down when you quit, so you don't need as much food as when you were smoking. Second, you may use food to replace cigarettes and end up eating a bit more than before.

Tips to avoid gaining weight while maintaining a quit:
Eat healthy, tasty, well-balanced meals as much as possible. Avoid fad diets.
Since food may taste better after you quit, you may want bigger helpings. Try to eat the same amount as usual.
Nicotine withdrawal can cause constipation. Drink lots of fluids.
Eat low-fat snacks like crackers, fruits, veggies or toast, instead of donuts, candy, or potato chips.
Moderate your use of alcohol. Keeping your hands busy with smoking may have slowed up your drinking before. Without a cigarette, your rate and number of drinks may increase along with your weight.
Get up and get moving! Physical activity can help to counteract any weight gain.

Start with a small achievable goal. Example: Walking 10 minutes everyday. Once you’ve gotten into the routine, change the activity goal. Example: Walking 20 minutes everyday, attending a fitness class once a week, join a sports team, take up a hobby that gets you moving like rock climbing or dancing.

What is key to remember is that increasing your level of physical activity requires changing your routine, therefore selecting a goal that is in tone with your current lifestyle in the beginning makes it a more manageable change and thus more sustainable over the long-term.

Hi all. I have gained 34 pounds since quitting smoking, my worst crave ever? microwave Kraft dinner and tropicana extra pulp orange juice, it`s so bad I have dreamed about it and woken up to make some, god, I am so addicted. I cannot possibly stop this or I will go back to cigs.  I used to be 124 pounds now am 158, what a piggy I am. gotta go now and make some KD in the mike.    P.S. I am on meds for high Cholesterol and on Heart meds also, have been for 15 yrs. Any suggestions?
