Oh my word Skates, it's perfectly acceptable to be negative on here once in a while - if I couldn't do that I'd have disappeared ages ago.  I even got irritable when people told me to be positive.  Repeatedly!  But the best bit is, I could come here and vent and rant and rave and there was always someone who was there to say 'hey I know you feel crap, and so do we all at some point - let it out, whatever it takes and pick yourself up when you're feeling up to it.'

So let that be my words to you.  Seems you've improved since your original post, which is great.  If you feel the need to rant again, by all means, come on by and if I'm around I just may rant with you ;)

30 days is a common stealth trigger point.  Know you're not alone.  Also know there will be more and we'll still be here.

Wishing you well.

x T

Hi Skates,

Thank you for being honest.  Feeling down is a common withdrawal symptom while quitting, it is not fun, but it will pass.

I think working exercise into your regime is a good idea.  Don't get overwhelmed though, exercise can be worked into a schedule without it being a terrible chore.  Take the stairs, go for a walk, do a few sit ups while watching tv, dance around your house for 5 minutes.  Little by little it will add up and the more you do it the more habitual it will become.

Keep fighting!

Hey Skates:

Yep it is a good thing to do, cessation that is...It does truly get done one day at a time.  I know that is an often spoken phrase, but that is probably because it is true.  Try not to look forward to much, quitting is a learning experience and if you try to look to far down the road you may miss a valuable lesson you are teaching yourself today...

stay well

Thanks Lance and Brenda!!  I will take your advice and have faith that this is part of rediscovering me as a totally new person.  I plan on starting to create myself TODAY as a non-smoker.  I am heading off to beautiful Halifax today for work.  I will try and keep my spirits high and be proud of what I have done so far.  As for the excercise, I will make sure I go for a few walks around their beautiful downtown area.

Brighter days are ahead of me...I'm convinced of that!

Skates! Cool I like that. Sounds like you're doing great! One month is a huge milestone. You are in the tough time. Im sure you have heard it gets easier and it DOES.

Remember the crappy time passes, every time. Just get though it each time and before you know it, you wont even notice the tough times, because they start to go away! They do! It's so cool!

One day you will be going along your business and think wow! I used to smoke! How cool is that?

Just keep up the good work and you will be amazed!

Hi Skates! It sounds like you already have your answer: balance.  If it is possible, and it appears to be, determine your priorities and set a schedule or routine involving exercise. I now belong t the YMCA. It gives scholarships to the broke, and those Ys with full facilities offer everything: aerobic, strength training, and flexibility classes; weightlifting, swimming, running, basketball... Plus, you can take the entire family. The YMCA even offers babysitting. I'm having a good time there. Since May 1st I've lost 17 pounds, and I'm almost 49 years old. (I see a dietitian and doctor and confer with trainers.) However, I waited almost a year before temporarily cutting my calorie intake to 1400, and I've added new classes almost weekly. I spent about seven hours exercising last week. Two 45 min sessions of tightening and toning; one 45 min session of sweatshop; two 30 min sessions of intro to step aerobics; two 45 min sessions of hip-hop step aerobics; two 45 min sessions of power cycling; three 40 sessions of elliptical weightlifting. (I needed to write all of that down.) Exercising does release endorphins, so you will get a boost. My only regret is that I didn't show up sooner. However, don't worry too much about your weight right now. If you exercise, and cut calories later, you will lose the weight. Instead just concentrate now on feeling better.

I so wanted to post a positive post.  I just can't muster up the fake happiness for how I have been doing...sorry everyone
I'll admit, I am very pleased that I have gone past one month and celebrated that a few times.  I guess what has caught up to me is the weight gain, the managing a new lifestyle as a non-smoker and waiting for what is next.  I am trying to work myself up to putting an exercise program in place just to get the happy endorphins going again...problem is, life is getting in the way right now.  I think I work waaaaay too much and have to refocus on finding a nice new work life balance as a non-smoker to help me along...

Willing to hear all suggestions to help me through this "funk" that I'm in...it totally sucks -
