Very inspiring and supportive.

I would print this and put it in a visual spot and read it over and over again.  You have all chosen the right path.

Having broken the chains that bind us it is now a pleasure to be able to breathe fresh air on a daily basis. Slaves to our addiction no more. I can't , We can. Thank you. breather

Sorry I missed this one and I'm so sorry you lost your friend.  Funny how we all search for the great purpose in our lives when sometimes that great purpose may actually be reached on departing this life, in the lessons we leave to those who are left behind.  I can't count high enough the lessons I've learned from those I've already lost.

Hello and thank you for the replies. The reason I wrote about Larry was to elabororate on the fact that although some individuals for whatever reason seem unable to cease their own relentless destruction they have contributed and do contribute to the betterment of us all. To all of the people that have taught us what we shouldn't be doing and that deserve nothing less than to be mentioned and honoured. Some are unable to break the chains that bind them. Some have helped us more than they will ever know. Some are a breath of fresh air. That's what Larry was. breather

Don, I am sorry about your loss.  You are right about one thing.  Life isn't fair.  Life is hard.  While we hope and pray that those near us will make all the right choices, we all operate on our own free will.  Stay strong.

A friend posted on Day 64 of his quit:  "Looks like the nicodemon has stooped to new low this time. It seems that if the demon can't win fairly it will play unfairly , but who said anything was fair. I think it will try to win any way possible and I'll need to " guard the quit ".

Now look at you.  You're on Day 606!!!  Guard the quit and...

Keep the Quit,

Dave

Hey Don,

I, too am sorry to hear about your friend.  My father and brother and grandmother all succumbed to the same fate and that is one of the reasons that I still am here!  If we can help our fellow quit buddies attain their freedom, hopefully fewer of us will lose friends and relatives to the diseases caused by smoking.

Hope all is well with you, buddy!

             Jim

breather, my father still tried to smoke as he was dying of lung cancer. Late 2008, early 2009 I came down with TB. I continued to try to smoke for a while. When stress hits, it's easy to fall back on what we know. That why we need to quit before we hear, You're dying. That's also why we need to fortify our quits and develop tools during less stressful periods in our lives.

Dear Breather,

I am sorry about your friend Larry.  I agree with you that Nicotine is a very powerful drug....I was addicted for 40 years!

Penitent has said it in his posts many times..."When your desire to quit is stronger than your desire to smoke, then you will do it"  I think that is how it works breather..............we are in a great place........ where our determination overcame our addiction and proved it is possible to quit.

Sorry again about Larry.

Lolly.

I was thinking of days gone by and how life changes as do we all. Every so often I think about Larry and how unfair life is at times. It seems that the best people tend to leave this earthly realm far to soon. Larry payed the ultimate price for his addiction. I think Larry would be pleased about this because he wanted to stop but for some reason no matter how hard he tried he found it impossible to do so. Make no mistake about nicotine being a powerful drug because it is. I really don't know how this whole thing works. I don't know why some people can stop and others no matter what they do and how hard they try are unable to stop. Just ordinary people here accomplishing something extraordinary. I'm of the opinion that anyone that truley wants to stop can stop making recovery then possible. I'm deeply saddened that Larry wasn't able to share the journey with us. Larry was a freind of mine. breather
