getting ready to quit again

for 14 år siden 0 1209 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Glad you are getting back up...  What helped me.. was to really change my thinking.. I had to understand that the craves & urges  are because of the nicotine addiction.  like any type of addict.. the only way to control it.. is to take back control  do not give in. do not feed the habit.  When you finally get the dragon to lie down and be quiet.. don't go poking it with a stick.   The only way to make the craves go away ... is to understand them.. Look it square in the.. eye.. and Say NO.  I do not smoke anymore.  I now am an EX smoker.  Take smoking as an Option.. off the table...

Understand.. a crave or urge will not kill you. Smoking will.. slowly.. take away your breathing , your enjoyment of life.

Best wishes in your new quit.

 Bonnie

Thank you all for your support and advice.  I have hopped back up and the horse again and reset my quit meter to June 2 to make up for the 3 day slip.  I am moving on and forward to getting my health back to where it was before the slip.

Hi Roses,

You are me about 6 months ago.  I fell off a quit right around the same time that you did...actually, let's be honest, that is normally when I would break down and have a smoke.  My mistake was that I relapsed for 6 months and went right back into full blown smoking.  I'm so happy to hear that you are getting right back up on that "non-smoking horse" and getting back into the quit!  Everyone else said great stuff below...and I agree with all of it.

One crave at a time...I KNOW you can do this!!

Good for you, Rose!  Coming back and being accountable to yourself is 1/2 the battle.  You have the will to do this, its evident.
One crave, one hour, one day at a time!  Prepare yourself with your coping tools, and plan this out.  It might also help to talk to your doctor because there's lots of options out there to help your quitting journey.
One day at a time...you CAN do this Rose!!!!

Cheering you on,
Jan

Hi Roses,

It is a great idea to post your reasons for quitting, you can also write your reasons down and post them on your desk as a constant reminder. Be sure to check out Milestone 4 - Getting Ready to Quit of the program. Work on the 'When will I be Tempted?' section of this milestone. This section asks you to reflect on when you might be tempted to slip, once you have completed the survey it will then explain some of the ways that other people have learned to manage these situations successfully and give you alternative strategies.

Keep working hard and check in soon.
