Wantobefree2010,

I'm sorry that you are feeling low; there are the +++'s though eight and a half months.  That is a good long distance.  Better to limit the damage, one can be a show stopper however don't let it be.  One has to get over the hump and don't make it worse and light up again . May I suggest a pen name change to gonnabefree2010 or something stronger.

Get some sleep now hope you enjoyed the vacation; where did you go?

BTW, vacations are a heavenly temptation to smoke; you fell good and so the smoke, naughty.

No, it was just the one.  It has to be the stupidist thing I have ever done, next to starting in the first place.  I have been under an incredible amount of stress at work during my entire quit, and have worked my bleeping ass off to keep my quit.  To have blown it during my vacation, without any stress, under such stupid, stupid circumstances is just incredibly devastating to me.

I understand the fact that you feel disappointed you have slipped. BUT, you are here now aren't you? It was a slip, not a relapse. It was a cigarette not going back to a pack a day. You want to stay quit. That counts. So, as others have said it, dust yourself off and keep on going. You know a major trigger now. Make sure you have your armor up whenever you're close to alcohol from now on. Go back through "My program"., revisit the reasons why you quit. And let go! As much as I am a firm believer in tough love, give yourself a break on this one...
Keep the quit

It is very difficult for me to see anything positive right now, but I suppose the only thing to gain is figuring out how to never let this happen again.  This just sucks.

Hi WantTo  It takes a lot of courage to log in and tell your peers that you messed up. Pick yourself up , dust yorself off and let's get on with it. As an addict I know full well how to throw a monkey wrench into the works. All I can tell you is more of the same. You learned how not to smoke for the last 8 1/2 months so continue on. So now you know that alcohol is a trigger stay away from it for a while. You're not alone as I messed up with five years behind me in another program so I know what it's like. Learn from what has happened and don't beat yourself up any more about it. Start a new day whenever you want to. You're the most important person here. breather
