Klonopin addiction.. ?

Letter to Jen 5-4 This is my first letter so hope it comes out. I have been taking Klonopin for about 20 years. Your doctor is wrong that Klonopin leaves the system quickly, it does not. Valium is not so good but better than Ativan and Xanax. I was put on Ativan for 7 years without knowing it was additive and same for Klonopin. Ativan is the worst thing invented. I hope you haven't taken Klonopin. It builds up in you and destroys the person you are. You could taka a beta blocker like Atenolol for a quick reaction. Lots of actors take them before they go on stage and have bad stage fright. I take it because of mitral valve prolapse but not every day. I think all these SSRIs eventually backfire on you and by then you're hooked and you can't remember things, have gained weight, missed out on a social life. Read Stevie Nicks essay on her experience with Klonopin online. She has the money for a 47 day stay in a hospital. This week I have taken myself off Cymbalta, a terrible experience still which is why I'm up at 2:25 a.m. But I will do it and then comes Klonopin which will need a doctor's call and take longer. I want to be who I was for a while at least. Don't feel bad with the $200 charge, mine was $250, what pirates. I bet you'd be surprised what you can do once you get dressed and out of the house. Give it a try. Good luck.

I take Klonopin as needed. My old psych was a nutcase and had me taking 100 mgs of Zoloft plus .5 of klonopin 3 times a day. Needless to say it knocked me out and i was a zombie. My dr told me it was wayy too much for my body size, weight etc. I am now on 200 mgs of Zoloft and take .5 of Klonopin wafers as needed. I've found that the wafers work faster and dont make me as sleepy. I recently asked my psychiatrist if it was ok to take the Klonopin on a daily basis, and she said it was fine and i wouldnt get addicted to it. She said the only way to get addicted is to take it in much larger doses. I dont think that you can get addicted just by taking that little< but talk to your dr about it if it really concerns you

Dear Jen, I take Klonopin every night, 0.5 at night, I started at 0.25, Klonopin is said to be better addiction wise because of its long half-life, I would of probably still be taking the 0.25 but I started taking Zoloft and that made me so wired I could not sleep, so it was bumped up to 0.5, 0.25 is a very lose dose, I have read when you have severe true anxiety the benzodiazpines are a life-saver that most of the time only current drug abusers become addicted, I sometimes take a 0.25 during the day if my anxiety is really severe, I am withdrawing from Zoloft right now and its a little rough, hopefully when that is over I can take the 0.25 again, I am pleading with my nurse to give me Paxil back, when I took a low-dose of that I did not need the Klonpin as much becaue Paxil relaxed and was midly sedating, which I liked. I understand your fear of meds I have them too. Try taking it an hour before you have to leave the house, or a stressful situation it will help, I take it a night to sleep better, I should take it in the day since that is when my anxiety is the worse. Good luck, I am sending prayers. I know how you feel. Debbie.

Hi, I went to a psychiatrist last week and he told me to take .25 mg of Klonopin every day. He said it would work the same as Diazepam which I had been taking on emergency basis only, but that the Klonopin only stays in the system for about 8 hours whereas the Diazepam stays about 24 hours. Anyhow, I'm too afraid to take this medication every day because I don't want to become dependent on or addicted to it. I would hate to wake up and know the only way I'll be okay is if I pop a pill. My mother is so angry with me because the appt. with this guy was $200 and I'm now only taking the Klonopin as needed. How can I explain to her that I'm afraid I'll become addicted to it? Or that I want to only take it as I need it. Do you think I'm wrong in doing this? My panic and anxiety is debilitating and some days I do not want to leave the house, but most times I can force myself to do it. I know the medication would make the struggle easier, but I would like to know that one day I'll be able to function normally as I used to and I don't want to have to worry about medication withdrawl or weaning. Please help!!!
