Hi Brenda,

I also have Pulmonary Fibrosis in my left lung, ( from the radiotherapy I have had)and COPD (from my 40 years of smoking)  in my right lung.

The doctors are treating me with drugs through a nebuliser twice daily and it is helping to control my breathlessness.  I just take one day at a time, and I thank goodness for a life to enjoy with the Freedom that my quit brought me!

Hang in there friend.

Love Lolly.

Thanks, everyone. I think I'll be able to deal with whatever happens.

All I can say is don't buy into all these predictions from Doctors.  My dad was given some grave prognosis 15 years ago and I'm meeting up with him for lunch tomorrow.  They are doing this with my Mom right now and I think she's doing great. Whatever the issue keep the faith and keep on keeping on. And don't think for a moment that going back to smoke would be OK because "why bother" is not the answer either. Keep strong. Ron

Hey Brenda.  How's everything with you?
A few days into this thread, and it seems a good time ask what you mean by the title.  This is What, Brenda?
What is "It," Where are you with it, and How are you with it, whatever "it" is?

Brenda, I don't know you as well as some of the others here, but you seem like a real nice lady and have always been helpful to me.

I can see that you are a strong lady, quitting smoking, exercising, losing weight and probably a whole lot more things I haven't heard about you yet.

Someone has been watching you and taking note on how well you have been taking care of yourself...and He will take care of you also.

Hang in there, I am thinking of you.

Brenda, just read your post.  I am so sorry to hear this.  The one thing I can say is there is wonderful doctors out there to help you though this.  As you know my husband & I are dealing with life too.  Also, you have one advantage that some don't; you have a 12 step support group and program to help you walk though whatever life throws at you.  If it were not for the steps, principles and of course the most amazing people I would be a babbling idiot.

I went on line to read about this.  You have my support and prayers. Hang in there, God still hands out miracles

... so I went into my doctor's office today to have her tell me that I have to go for more pulmonary function tests. As it turns out, the spirometry tests showed that I do not have COPD, but instead that I likely have restrictive lung disease. That's the part that she neglected to tell me back in August when the results first came in. When I asked her if my laryngopharnageal reflux disease could cause it, she said possibly. Acid reflux can be an underlying cause. Asthma can also be the cause. But she added that she thinks I might have pulmonary fibrosis from the TB, smoking, and the acid reflux. Well, I've done some research. It is thought that idiopathic (without cause, usually) pulmonary fibrosis can be caused by smoking, acid reflux... and if that is the case, the disease is progressive and untreatable. It's not a better diagnosis than COPD.
