So let's talk first about the fact that when I was a smoker, I was never smoking in my dreams, was it like that for you?

My first 3 quit attemps I had smoking dreams all the time. I was kind of  "on the ropes" about it, it seemed good while I was asleep, but made me mad when I woke up.

Now, this 4th (and final) quit, I have not had one smoking dream in 34 days .... I don't know if this is a good thing or bad???

Any insight on why before and not now??

Hi Members,

There are some mixed feelings towards smoking dreams. Some of you enjoy them, while other members hate them.

With time, members have said  that they become less frequent and go away . This is something to look forward to. Breather, you took a really active approach and looked at the  NO SMOKING sign to stop you from having a smoking dream. Great idea!

Members, were you able to do something to stop dreaming about smoking?

Peteg, my husband and I actually disagree over the value of these dreams.  I feel so guilty when I have a smoking dream and so relieved when I wake up.  My husband, on the other hand, enjoys smoking dreams because it is a place that he can smoke without all the bad side effects (e.g. wake up smoke ffree, sheets won't smell or have burns in them.....).  I guess it is all a matter of perspective.

cheers

Smoking dreams are not fun.  I had a bunch of them and when you wake up you fell like you smoked a pack of cigarettes but didn't.  It's on the level of seeing yourself dying falling out of an airplane only to wake up and shake your head what happened.  I totally sympathize with you and can only say is that you will dream less about smoking over time as you think less about smoking and being a non smoker.  Like others say it's better than starting up again in real life and wishing you didn't.  In the meantime maybe you can steal Peteg's dream catcher for a couple of weeks :)

I know it's a choice and not a burden.
I'm happy being smoke free.
I am all about Not One Puff, Ever (NOPE).
I am being WAY careful about never getting to Hungry, Angry, Lonely, or Tired (HALT).
I am SO walking the straight and narrow.

But those dreams sound HOT to me.  Where can I sign up to smoke in my dreams and wake up smoke free?? And my sheets won't even smell or have burns in them?  SHOW ME THE DREAM!!  I BELIEVE!!

CaroB congrats on 2 months!  Its only day 17 for me and I have been plagued with smoking dreams.  I always feel so relieved when I wake up, reminding myself it was only a dream.

Breather:  I love your "No Smoking" sign idea.  I am going to borrow this brilliant idea.

cheers,

Hello CaroB Be proud of yourself for being two months smoke free. I had a smoking dream early in my quit that disturbed me greatly. It seemed so real that I could taste and smell the smoke. I wasn't right for half the day until I realised that it actually was a dream and nothing more. I did nothing wrong and it wasn't my fault. I went out and picked up a small " NO SMOKING" sign and put it in plain view where I could see it before going to sleep. Sub consciously I wasn't allowed to smoke in my dreams. That was a long time ago and I haven't had one of those dreams since then. Smoking dreams are a common occurance. Keyword dreams for a good read. Excellent for you stopping smoking. breather

Hi CaroB,

These kind of dreams are quite common.  Many members even have slips in their dreams and wake up feeling guilty.  It can often be helpful to look at it as a little reminder of how important this quit is to you and a little reminder that there is still some work that can be done.  How do you think you could look at these dreams in order for them not be a hindrance?
