Why I am glad I didn?t smoke today!

I'm still glad I don't smoke anymore...lol...really?
I upped the jog/walk ratio to 2:1 today, but could only keep that up for 20 mins, then had to decrease it to 1.5:1....still. Couldn't have done that if I was smoking. Plus, I was able to look at some $$ I'm saving to help outfit my grandchild's room. Couldn't have done that, either if I was pouring it into smokes. I wish there was some way to adjust my savings on my quit meter to reflect the higher price of cigs. I bet I've saved closer to 15K by now

well, once again the scale is pointing in the wrong direction. Seems like I can't ever have a weekend of not watching what I eat without adding pounds...so...decided to get back to the gym on a regular basis, because just doing the fun stuff like hiking and boogieboarding doesn't seem to be doing the job.

A few years back, after quitting and then gaining some pretty serious weight (not all quit related I'd like to add), I set foot in a gym for the first time ever. My first attempt on the treadmill I couldn't walk for 5 minutes without feeling like it was too much. Well, I kept at it and eventually lost 47 pounds, and trained and completed an offroad 5K at not a roadrunner pace, but respectable considering my age and the course. And definitely not last. After that I decided I'd met my goal, and would rather do other things than running for exercise. Which I have, but not consistently enough to keep the middle age spread from creeping in, up, and around.

Okay, fast forward a couple of years from that 5K to today. I jumped back on the treadmill and guess what? I could comfortably do jog/walk intervals at a 1:1 ratio, with no problem whatsoever! Wasn't winded,  my heart rate was up, but not alarmingly so, and probably could have continued but wanted to do some lifting in the time I had. I know for a fact that if I was still smoking I would be back to that day a few years ago when I could barely walk for 5 minutes, much less jog. I'm even thinking of doing another 5K - and maybe more.

I love love love not smoking!

Yesterday I met with a lady at a temporary employment agency.  They took a copy of my drivers license and the conversation came around to the photo on it.  My Arizona DL does not expire 2016, but the photo must be renewed every 12 years, which mine was a couple of years ago.  The lady made the comment "As if people's faces change that much."  I said that when I quit smoking almost six years ago I lost about 10 years off my face in the first couple of months.  That really surprised her.

She smokes.

I planted a seed.

Yee hah! Another 5+ hr flight that was ....hmmmm..enjoyable. The only fidgeting was due to not enough room, not to craving nicotine. read, chatted with my seat mate a bit, ate the yummy lunch daughter packed. Didn't have to worry about grossing anyone out with my smell. Good stuff.

lol...good point, Shevie

I'm glad I didn't smoke today because I could power through all my appointments without cutting any short in order to smoke...so love not being a slave to it any more

I'm glad I didn't smoke today because I'm a non-smoker.  Besides, it's raining and I'd have to stand in it.  Kinda stupid, isn't it, to stand in falling water in order to burn something?

I'm so glad I didn't smoke today because I had choices about what I wanted to do, and none of them included considering how and where I was going to grab a smoke. I decided on the gym....a little cardio, some weights, ipod entertainment..maybe an hour...feeling good!

I'm glad I didn't smoke today because I am now able to run around the football pitch comfortably without regular pausing to regurgitate the neverending build-up of mucus in my lungs!

Sorry for the graphic but so true

I'm glad I didn't smoke today because it would have destroyed over four weeks of hard work!

Also, like Aloha, I recently did laundry and I have fresh towels hanging up and I am SO looking forward to a shower and clean linens!

And like Charm, I didn't smoke because I didn't have to... :)

I'm glad I didn't smoke today because I am having sinus problems and smoking would make them worse.
