Ok, I'm going to try this one more time. I can't copy and paste anything here, so I'm hoping I won't lose this list after typing it - again! I'd like to give credit to whoever put this list together, but can't remember who it was for sure. I think it was either Pen or Duffis. I used to take this list with me when I knew I was going to be in a situation where I might be tempted to light up. I'd take it out and read it, repeating key phrases, until the desire to smoke passed. I know that most people don't read at parties, concerts, bars, or sugar shacks, but it saved my quit a number of times. I hope it will be helpful to others

I WILL NEVER TAKE ANOTHER DRAG!!!!
  • Smoking is for weak people and I am not a weak person
  • I refuse to be a slave to addiction
  • Visualize and repeat your top three reasons for quitting
  • Watch 1 minute go by and remember that 10 people died from smoking in that 1 minute and one of them could be you if you smoke that cigarette
  • Write down and repeat to yourself the names of people you will hurt if you go back to smoking
  • Look up, write down, and repeat to yourself the definition of nicotine
  • Write down and repeat any people you know who have died from smoking or are likely to
  • Look up and repeat all the deadly chemicals in cigarettes
  • Inhale as deeply as you can and then hold it for a few seconds. Without exhaling, take another breath, and then another.  This is what it feels like to have emphysema
  • Plan your next milestone reward
  • Write in your journal or read what it was like during those first tough days. Don't make yourself go through that again
  • Write down what you will do with 15 extra years of life
  • Tell yourself it is a great achievement to have come this far and you will not undo it because you can't handle a few minutes of anxiety
  • I will let got of things I cannot control
  • I am healthy, vital, and strong
  • There is nothing in the world I cannot handle
  • All my needs are met
  • I am completely and utterly safe
  • Every day and in every way I am getting stronger
  • I do not need cigarettes
  • I am a non-smoke
  • I am simply creating new habits which do not include smoking
  • It's better to be an ex-smoker with an occasional desire to smoke than a smoker with a constant desire to stop
  • I DON'T SMOKE!
  • This craving will pass whether I smoke or not
  • Some day I'll find it hard to believe that I ever smoked
  • I'm a puff away from a pack a day
  • "TO QUIT QUITTING" is not an option
  • "JUST ONE" is not an option
  • I will confront my cravings head and win every time. This craving can't kill me, make me bleed, hurt my family or last more than a few minutes
  • I am proud of ME
  • Confidence is the result of accomplishment
  • Not one, Not now, Not ever!
