When is the best time to stop smoking?

The best time is the time you stop. I don't believe that stopping is a process. Stopping means you stopped. That's what it takes to quit smoking. It is simple--not easy, but simple. Addicts often are complicated people. We can twist the easiest things into knots. Rationalize, procrastinate, take an superior piece of dodo attitude toward people, places and things. I set quit date after quit date. I tried turkey after cold turkey. What worked was my deciding that I really did not want to smoke anymore and setting a date that was not so far off that I could easily be lulled back into complacency. All the other tries were just me making a decision to make a decision. All of the desires were just dreams. Dreams are goals that lack a plan. And people who haven't made a real decision usually have no plan. I know when I've made a decision. It's when I do what I've decided. The problem with waiting for the right time is that for most of us our excuses will always be true. So we can't let them get in the way. Instead, it is when we have a lot of excuses that we most need to look for help. Prioritize your commitment to yourself. If you don't already, you might want to begin an exercise regimen. You'd probably find that you cannot exercise and smoke. Plus, the exercise will take your mind off of smoking. Exercise relieves stress. Smoking increases it.

Hi folks, Mad Englishman here with a few minutes to spare............and talking to the browsers who are many in number and must include a large proportion of people wondering, thinking about or just curious about stopping smoking.

When is the best time to give up smoking? I've seen all sorts of advice in the years and years that I have been reading and finding out about the addiction to nicotine.

I've seen everything from just stop immediately, to set yourself a quit date in the future, stop at a weekend, stop mid-week and avoid the weekend and countless more variations on a theme.

Well I know the answer. So lets stop messing about.....................

It is without question, 11.49am on a Wednesday morning.

How am I so sure? Well that was the precise time when I reached the point where the desire to stop smoking and take my life back outweighed the desire to stick another dose of nicotine in my body.

The point is that there is no magic date or strategy or time of the year or week or day that is better than any other. It is totally dependent on how much you as an individual want to to make it happen and how you plan to get through the first 3 days of the nicotine leaving your body and the couple of weeks afterwards when you have to deal with the habits and cues and craves that will have to be squashed and dealt with.

You don't have to do it on your own, this site is a fantastic source of help and inspiration. Log on whenever you feel you are struggling or want some advice and it will be forthcoming.

So, what time is it at the moment.........is it your 11.49am on a Wednesday yet!
