Hi Kettles,

Congratulations on a 4 year quit!  You certainly have turned your life around!  Thank you for such an inspiring story.

Keep on enjoying your new life and freedoms!

I don't know about others but for me, quitting smoking proved to me that I really can accomplish anything. Nothing feels off limits after you do that! It changed my perspective on everything. I am simply just more ambitious now. I just expect more from myself. I'm now getting a degree I never imagined I would, I'm accomplishing physical goals beyond my wildest dreams and am always looking for ways to improve myself, physically and mentally.

I was always very depressed when I smoked, it was like I really hated doing it but not doing it was so difficult - it was a really defeating cycle that made me feel terrible about myself.  I hated going to any doctor because I just felt stupid for smoking, like I was deliberately hurting myself. I'd avoid it at all costs. I think in some ways I felt undeserving to be cared about because I felt like people would think I didn't care about myself because I smoked. I know that probably sounds really silly... but that's how I felt! Knowing I was really doing everything I could to treat myself better, gave me a lot of self confidence I didn't even realize I was lacking.

It's amazing to me the ways my life has improved from quitting smoking, I never would have imagined how great it would be.

Congratulations Kettles!

You are an inspiration.

Aside from being thinner and healthier how has this process changed you? How has this affected your life as a whole?

First of all, congratulations, kettles. That is awesome!

I was able to do quite a bit of physical activity during my life as a smoker, so I never realized that I was being limited by it. Now that I'm not smoking, I am finding that I have much greater endurance than before. I hope to have success story like yours in a couple of years. Maybe not running a marathon (no cartilage in my knees so impact activities are out), but maybe some other athletic achievement.

Thanks for the inspiring story.

You go, Girl! I think that's great. You're right. Most of us cannot exercise effectively while smoking. That also makes it difficult to lose weight. So to all of you who think that smoking keeps you slim, think again. I also eventually lost a significant amount of weight after quitting smoking. Good luck, kettles!

I don't come here often but I wanted to pop in and say thanks to everyone in this community for being the amazing resource you are, I never would have quit smoking without this site. It completely changed my life.

I loved seeing how the stats about how much healthier I was becoming but I really wanted to feel the improvement, so I took up running. the first time I laced up a pair of sneakers and hit the road, I didn't make it 20 feet without being out of breath. I kept at it because it helped me stay quit. Every day was a visible improvement, there was no way I would ruin that by lighting up.

About 2 years later and 60 lbs lighter, I just ran my first half marathon.

I'm so grateful to everyone here for helping me get to where I am now, thank you!
