Deb,

I am So Proud of you, you are Rocking this Quit!

That sounds like a grueling trip.  Would your husband handle it well if you asked him to smoke at rest stops etc. instead of in the car?  I hate to see you suffering because of the triggers when many of them could be prevented with just a bit of consideration on his part.

Here is a mantra, maybe it will resonate for you: "I am free now to detach myself from what I used to be."

You are no longer a smoker, no matter what the provocation.  You are Free!!!

Thinking about you,

Carol

Hey, Debsoflo. I am very proud of you for making it through that harrowing journey. I honestly don't know if I could have taken it. I remember going into a smoky casino early on in my quit and feeling very triggered. I kind of think that some nicotine got into my system from that and started up some physical cravings. It was highly unpleasant for a day or two after that.

I would highly recommend that you talk to your hubby about not smoking in your indoor space, as it is very triggering (and not to mention the secondhand smoke risks that you shouldn't have to endure now that you have quit). Your hubby may be in the habit of doing this in the car or in the house, but it's not a huge sacrifice to stop those behaviors. When I smoked, I did it for my nonsmoking boyfriends. There was no reason for them to be exposed to my carcinogens. Plus, smoking outside reduces some of the risks to the smoker, as well. I think its because it reduces the smoker's exposure to their own secondhand smoke.

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

so... we made it to north carolina - 10.5 hours and a lot of gum chewing and water drinking and i got thru it!  but i have to tell ya - i am struggling with thoughts of smoking today/tonight!  it's freaking me out because i've been doing so well and feeling so strong up until today... high anxiety for sure.

good thing is that tomorrow is exactly one month since my quit date on august 5th.  and my son is so proud of me.  it is so important that i do not smoke !EVER! for my family, especially my son.  he is now 21yo and has hated my cigarette smoking his whole life... i want this just as much (if not more - to be honest) for him than i do for myself.

just keep telling myself that i am freshly "out of detox" - just a newbie recovering addict in the same world that i lived in as a smoker.  no halfway/sober house or outpatient facility to help me... BUT
...thankfully and gratefully i can come here and share my struggles.   thanks for listening.  xo

and yes... I AM SO PROUD OF MYSELF!

Wow Deb, Be Strong!!!!!  Open the window and let all that poison out!!!! Chew your gum, sing loudly.  Put perfume on your wrists and smell it often.  Enjoy your trip!!!!

Good thing I'm not married to a smoker, he wouldn't be smoking while I'm in the car if he wanted to stay alive :)

10+ hour drive up to North Carolina. Now in car with my hubby smoking away! I used to smoke probably double on long trips. I'm chomping on gum like crazy and drooling all over myself. Got my Kindle loaded with new books. And I guess I'll sing. Too bad I can't upload a video of THAT here! :)
