Working the program today as usual. I am in the countdown stage of the program..I will take your advice and try to remember to be kind to myself as I go through this progress of getting quit and staying quit..
It has been a little rough this morning so far..and I am doing the best I can right now..and that is ok...

Hello jdoe (and Deb); So glad to hear you're looking forward to your new life as an ex smoker and anticipating just what it will be like jdoe!  Yay for you for the good visualization!  That should help you along very well!
Great suggestions Deb; to keep your hands busy and don't put too much pressure on yourself to 'shape up' all at once.  I thought I'd be a healthy example of a Quit gone right; Smoke free and 10 lbs lighter within a month! Sounded great to me! But didn't happen quite that way.  Instead I piled 25 lbs on!  So I turned to Brenda's advice & gave myself permission to deal with the weight later! Am just tackling the weight now that I finally have some energy back!  So I think if you can be kind to yourselves (jdoe & Deb both) while doing this amazing thing quitting thing, you may find it more bearable.  And just say NOPE every day until your life starts to return to a semblance of normalcy!  You can do it!  Yes you can!  Eya

Thanks for sharing what works for you with me..Tips really help when quitting and keeping quit..On my last quit I just wanted to sleep just like you. Which was really good. The one before that I was just the opposite..I am not sure what this one will be like. I may be over thinking it this time..so I am going to try to remain positive and tell myself this is going to be the easiest quit yet..
I having been reading your posts about your quit and want to congratulate you on a job well done. That got me thinking I am looking forward to being 3 weeks into my quit too. It will be so nice to breathe easy again..I woke up early at 4 am and took a deep breathe and it felt so good..It is remarkable how the body starts to recover overnight..I am really starting to look forward to this quit..

I like how you are preparing for your quit.  It seems like you are really thinking this through so that you are well prepared to handle it. 
 
I'll throw my two cents in for what it's worth.  I've tried to quit lots, and I've learned a lot in the process.  Remember, this is just what is working for me, but if any of this helps you, then great!
 
I didn't throw the extra pressure of excercising in right away because I just wanted to focus on one thing.  I also know that I get excessively sleepy when I quit, so I lightened up on myself, and am letting myself sleep as often as I need to.  I know that there will be a day soon, when I wake up and I have almost too much energy, and that's when I'll need to get out the sneakers and hit the road for some good hikes-- otherwise I get too restless and want to fix it by smoking. 
 
Distractions help tons.  I found great ones on my cell phone-- i.e. games... games on the computer too.  I seem to prefer word games where I need to think fast because it engages my brain to the point that I really am not thinking about smoking anymore. 
 
Rewards.  I can't tell you how important they are.  Even if you don't do much, do something that's very important to you.
 
Avoid smokers if that's what you need to do.  If you know that's your trigger, then explain to your friends that you need to get some self-care time in.  Most women can relate to that.
 
I also chew lots of gum.  I'm not a gum chewer, but I found that I need something to keep my mouth busy at all times.  It seems to keep me from overeating too.
 
Showers, brush, floss, bleach your teeth with an over the counter product, put on your favorite lotion, and your favorite perfume, and enjoy how great you smell.  Remember, if you smoke just one cigarette, that lovely feeling of being clean and fresh will be gone.
 
These are just some little things that have helped.  There's more, but I need to get back to work :)

The American Lung Association has a very good program that I have worked on before..I really like the part about dealing with triggers and back doors...These are the things I really need to work on right now...

Thanks for your interest and for asking...Mostly I think I need to make sure that I have lots of things to do that I enjoy to replace the time I spend smoking..I also need to prepare for triggers and look for ways to cope with them that are positive instead of negative..Like smoking for instance..which is a big negative..I want to start a exercise plan before I quit that way I will have it in place as a positive..This should help me replace my negative behaviors with positive healthy ones...For me the exercise is a win win situation no matter what happens with my quit...I also read on the Oprah site, which later referred me to the "real age.com site that it is good to start walking every day for a month before you quit..It is supposed to help with the craving  when you do quit and it also helps you to develop new healthy habits...Anyway thats what I think I need to do if I want to quit and keep quit this time around..
I am interested in hearing what others have to say on this subject...

Remember to use the program to help you prepare. The program will arm you with a great tailored quit plan.

I am getting ready and preparing to quit again..I really want to keep this quit so I have decided to make some changes to my routine and was wondering what others are doing to prepare for their quits? and what others that have quit did to prepare for their quits? I am also wondering what you are doing to keep your quits?
Yesterday I went out and  bought some exercise dvd's so that I can exercise in the morning instead of smoke with my morning cup of coffee..I am also a member of the healthy weight forum and this is part of my work on living a happier and healthier life...Any input or ideas from others preparing to quit or that have already quit would be greatly appreciated!!
