I would like you to rate some alternative methods for dealing with panic\anxiety

I forgot to mention I was on paxil for over a year. After awhile the meds stop working and dose needs increased. I wasn't going to continue on this drug from hell so it took me almost a year to wean myself completely. The withdrawals are much worse than the panic attacks. Docs don't tell you the truth concerning these drugs.

Hi...I suffered with panic attacks for over 33 years now. After many years of suffering, I started using a relaxation tape. Along with the music, I would lie down in a darkened bedroom and use beathing exercises. I would breath in to the count of 4, hold to the count of 4 and exhale to the count of 4. Once I was breathing this way automatically, I would start repeating these words over and over "my mind is calm, my body relaxed". The first time I tried it, it took about 20 minutes to relax me, remember, I was having an attack at this time so was harder to concentrate. after 2 weeks of doing this, I could go lay down and start the process, soon as i got to the words, my mind is calm, my body automatically went into relaxed mode. After 2 weeks, anything becomes a habit. I had trained my body to relax and went panic free for 4 years. Then I started hanging around another sufferer and started having them again. I now just use meditation music and it soothes me. Hope this helps.

hi there blu 3 i joined not long ago, i have been feeling alot better after 3 years in bad anxiety was taking beta blockers which were helpful in that the physcial symptoms were blocked to some extent so was able to go to supermarket etc which had become a daily battle, but with my partner working and me being at home with a baby i just had to go, which sometimes was terryfying i am currently not on medication although i have found essential oils have helped me they help the brain rebuild neuro responses, i would really like to try the Linden Method i see you have tried it yourself and wondered if you would consider selling it to me, if you havent already got rid of it, as you dont sound too impressed, is something i have got in my head i would like to try, as am finding it v v difficult to go out on my own, walking to shops etc, havent done it in 2 years or go out with my now 3 yr old without buggy to strap him in if i feel anxious, he is now fed up with this and i am quite worried about how to deal with it. Anyway any response would be great. thanks

Well I have a decent amount of knowledge on SSRI's Rateing -1 they did nothing for me made me worse sometimes infact. Benzos. I've been stuck on xanax for awhile now it works a little on a 1-10 scale of working id say it depends. but between a 4-5 I've only been to a few Hypno-therapy sessions. So i honestly can't rate it but i think its worth a try i plan to try it again someday. CBT hasnt really done much for me so i would rate it a 3 Now Meditiation has helped me when i have space to do it such as yesterday 30 minutes of it helped me get through the rest of the day. I also reccomend acupuncture (spelling error) but some studies have shown it to be of great help. I have not been able to try it yet but i plan to quite soon. I tried the Lind. Method . It's a method that only works for some people not all. It did not work for me so i rate it a 0 in my case. I reccomend trying more natural ways to combat it anxiety, panic, and depression. Medication is helpful but it is never a cure only a treatment. So I have been searching for herbs and such for a while now. Meditation is good learn to do it well it will help as does ti chi. And to close just never give up you'll find your way. I've come close to giving up in the past but i've pulled through ^_^ Take Care-

hi there just posted wrong name of book that helped me called "healing without freud and prozac" explains lots of case studies, covers CBT and lots of other different ideas the bit that made most sense to me and has helped me significantly was the part about essential oils, omega 3 6 and 9, i take UDOs mixture, can look it up on the net i think but most heath stores have it, it helps your brain work more effeciently and make the new connections and lifts depression, will dig out book and find author if anyone interested, exercise also helps did start that but hard when you feel so tired, also i had my thyroid checked and was found to be underactive which is linked to anxiety.

Hello! I have had anxiety for 12 years now and had been on Paxil for 7 of those years. It worked very well for me but I still had panic attacks - just not as often. When I quit the Paxil (slowly weaned off of) I had the most horrific experience for months from withdrawals and swore I would never go back to SSRIs ever again. In that time, I did a lot of research to find out how to beat this without meds. I have learned that meds do not take the problem away - they only mask it. But, when you get off the meds, you're thoughts are still there and that means the problem is still there. I have learned that Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) is the most effective way of beating this because anxiety and panic is a learned behavior and it can be unlearned. CBT teaches you how to do that. This website offers a free 12 week program to teach you how to do that. I have been working through it and for the first time in years am starting to feel in control and not controlled. I am on week four now and still have a ways to go, but I do feel like I am starting to "get a grip." It takes a lot of effort and determination, but I promise it is worth it! There's no doubt in my mind that CBT is the way to go if you're trying to get rid of panic / anxiety.

Hi, I'm new here and I cannot stop searching a method that can make me be "me" again. Please help me by rating what was helpful to you (a scale of 1 to 10) so I know what I'll try. 1. SSRIs - which one? I don't seem to respond too well to Prozac 2. Benzos - which one? For how long? I'm struggling to not use them but I cannot relax at all to do my relaxation and breathing... 3. CBT - how long did you take it? Again... it's very hard to do this when always "on the edge" 4. Hypnotherapy - how many sessions? 5. Bach Remedy 6. Linden Method 7. Biofeedback 8. Relaxation 9. Meditation 10. Yoga 11. Tai-Chi 12. Any other thing that you think it would help Thanks you very much for your support. J
