Panic attack form/panic attack definition

This does sound like me. I had a bad panic attack at work (of all places!) about 3 years ago. Dr's tried me on various meds, but nothing worked. After that time, I'd have some physical symptoms and some anxious thoughts, but i was able to live thru it. then one night about 2 months ago, I was just sitting watching TV and another one hit me. that was a bad one w/the symptoms and the thoughts. since then, i've been trying to get it under control again, but it takes a while since the way you feel constantly sits in the front of your mind.

I had really bad panic attacks 3 years ago, which took me several months to get over (maybe up to a year?) I found that after several months, the panic attacks started to get much less severe and I started to get better, and during this time when I was getting a lot better, I would get physical symptoms, but not the emotional fears/panic anymore. So in my case, I would say that if you're getting just the physical symptoms without the actual fear/panic emotions, then it's still a mild panic attack (maybe a 1 or 2 on the fear scale) and that it's a sign of great improvement! Eventually my panic attacks stopped for a couple of years (they came back in the last month due to a really stressful time in my life though!) Hope that helps! I've had a hard time trying to figure this out also. But, the conclusion I have come to is that the physical symptoms are normal and are always going on. The panic comes from the way we react to our normal bodily functions. For instance, last night while trying to get to sleep, my heart kept beating faster than normal. This is one of the physical symptoms that go along with panic. I kept telling myself my heart was beating fast because it was so hot and uncomfortable and because when you go to bed, your heart rate and your blood pressure rises naturally. Surprisingly, I was able to stay calm. So, even though this was a typical physical symptom of panic, I was able to stay calm through it and did not panic. So, to answer your question, panic is the emotion, not just the physical. Does that answer your question? Congratulations on being able to get through the physical without the panic - that is very good progress!! Probably one of the hardest things for us to get through.

I have the same thing! I can be sitting watching TV or reading a book and my chest will tighten up or I'll start having problems breathing even tho i'm really not thinking about anything. I can also have the anxious thoughts without any of the physical problems. Those are the ones I try to keep track of so I can learn how to handle them.

I am the same, I get the physical symptoms which make me anxious but not always panic (I guess thats progress). I have been rating the anxiety level succesfully but it is the "Fear level" I have problems with. It seems to be for me either 10 or 0. Can a panic attack occur with just physical symptoms and no fear or is the definiation of a PA that fear is involved? Cheers,

One thing I forgot - if I'm anxious but not necessarily panicky, I rate it as a 2 or 3. For me, the physical symptoms can make me anxious but not panic depending on how I react to it. The stronger that emotion gets, the higher it gets on the scale.

I also get the physical symptoms without being anxious or panicky. I just use the forms when the emotional aspect is there also, not just the physical. Hope that helps.

Hi, Can anybody advise me on filling out the panic attack forms? I often get physical symptoms of panic attacks (e.g. pounding heart etc) but this is not associated with fear every time. When I have fear it is always quite intense. If I get the physical symptoms without fear is this classed as "no panic attack" or is it a panic attack with fear with level 1 (or 0)? This seems quite important because the succesive sessions are based on the facts that we actually record. Thanks in advance, Martin
