Hi Athena & Splitimage, Feeling better on day 5! I actually woke up this morning without feeling like I weighed an extra 50 pounds.  Hoping to get back at the gym tomorrow, exercise does help me a lot, mentally and physically, so it seems that I may be getting back into a more "normal" state. And, yes! Crazy, weird dreams!! Not about drinking, but very vivid, to the point that a couple of them I had to have a reality check because I thought that they had actually happened.  It has been so nice to actually enjoy the spring air and weather, usually I am hungover & sleep through it.  It's a great incentive to keep going.  The downside, though, is that it tends to trigger wanting a drink, like sitting outside with a gallon of margaritas in my favorite chair.  But, it's so beautiful and I do feel so good that I really don't want to ruin it, so I'm just simply not going to! : ) I hope you all are having a great day too!!

Hi RedDragon,

I had the same experience.  I am a little over three weeks in and it is getting a bit better, but I still find it very hard to wake up in the morning and feel like I could use at least a couple of naps a day.  I think it takes your body and your brain chemistry quite a while to readjust.  Have you been having any strange dreams?  I had some really strange ones at frist, but in the past few days I have woken up three times panicked because I believed that I had been drinking and then realized it was a dream.

Hi reddragon,   It seems from what I've heard, people's sleep goes one of two ways when they quit drinking, either they can't sleep at all or, as in your case, you need way more sleep than normal.   I'm the same way - when I first quit, I needed a lot of sleep and rest during the day too.   It's ok, it's your body healing itself.    My experience was I started to feel "normal" and not sluggish all the time, after about 7 - 10 days.

Make sure that you're eating properly too, lots of lean protein, and fresh fruits and veg's.   That'll help with your energy levels too.

Thank you Ashley, I have definitely been getting rest, more than I expected. I just can't believe how extremely sleepy I am. And when I do get up and manage to move around, it doesn't take long for me to get winded and I need to lay down again.  I've always slept the day away after a night of binge drinking. I was just getting worried as the past few days have gone by and I feel like I may never wake up!  I feel a bit better today but right now it's only 8:30 and I am whipped after grocery shopping. I can feel bed time not too far away!!

Hi Reddragon,

Congrats on three days!

Fatigue is a common symptom of alcohol withdrawal. Remember your body is healing so if you are tired, sleep. Be easy on yourself and soon you will feel better then ever.

Hi everyone, It's been a while since I've posted. I'm trying to make a fresh start, yet again, and it's been 3 days since I've had my last drink. The thing is I've been sleeping a lot!! Yesterday I got up and got my girls to school for 8:30, came home and slept until 2:00.  Today I did the same thing, except I woke up at 12.  On Wednesday, I had class so I had to force myself to keep going even after I dropped my girls off at school.  I drank a coffee at about 11 trying to pep myself up, and I am not a coffee drinker, but I literally could have laid down and slept for hours.  I've also been going to bed really early. Just sleeping, sleeping, sleeping. When I'm awake, I'm just drowsy and lethargic. Is this part of detoxing? Just my body getting the alcohol out of my system? Thanks for any input.
