Hi Want to Succeed,

I am sorry you are feeling this way. It sounds like in the past you may have used alcohol as a coping mechanism and now that you cannot mask your symptoms with alcohol, the depression is becoming more apparent. Alcohol is a depressant so it is very good that you got away from it. In the long run, staying away from it will help you recover from depression.

Many people recoving from alcohol find they have some emotional hurdles to overcome once they become sober. They may have guilt due to their past actions, they may have lost important relationships, they may also have few healthy coping mechanisms; as in the past they might have only turned to alcohol to cope. Relearning how to live a healthy life takes a lot of work, staying away from the alcohol is just the first most important step.

We have a sister site called the Depression Center that may help you with how you are feeling. It is based on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy principles which is a proven method to address Depression. Take a look at the program. If you stick with the program you will see results. It will teach you coping skills and ways to challenge your depression.

Feel very proud to be alcohol free for 2 months. This is  huge achievement! You will get to where you want to be with your mood aswell and we will be right there beside you until you get there.

Hope to see you over on the Depression Center support group!

hey...your body could still b dealing with the booze depending on how much you drank...i read a book on depression and there is some inf.  from this site...the idea was that you could learn from depression...it was your body/mind telling you something was wrong with your life and it was time to make some changes....also try a book on cognitive behaviour ....
