Agitated Days

Hi PJ!
Sorry you had such a difficult day. What Ashley wrote really brought back a memory to me. At one point in our lives my family was having some very difficult times, My husband and I were working hard to keep ourselves sane when our kids were crazy. We had a friend who kept wanting us to go out and we really didn't feel like it. Finally my husband told her " You don't understand we are desperate here!" She replied "For desperate people you really look good!" In other words things aren't always like they seem to be. Other people's situations may really look good on the outside but be terrible on the inside. Comparing yourself to others can be very destructive. I know because I have been there. When we were having such a hard time I would look at other families and wonder where we had gone wrong and why everyone else was so good. Now, a few years later I can look back and see that things have gotten better and that other people weren't always that better off. They were just better at hiding their own problems. I try very hard not to compare myself to others because I can always find someone who LOOKS better. In reality I am doing pretty good just like I am! So keep that in mind. Some days are just more downers than other days. I hope that tomorrow will be a wonderful day for you.
THINK BEFORE YOU DRINK!

Hi PJ,

Sorry you are feeling this way. I think many people (young people especially) get this way sometimes - I know I do! First of all try not to compare your life to anyone else's. I think the Facebook craze makes people compare themselves more- people post pictures of their beautiful house, family, vacation, etc. but you never really get to see what goes on behind the scenes or how they were able to get where they are. You are on your own individual path - compete with yourself and not others. I also believe anxiety or agitation regarding where you are occurs a lot in young people as it pushes us to get moving on reaching our goals - if we didn't have this little nagging feeling that we wanted more then why would we work so hard to grow? Don't let this agitation beat you; drinking will only make you feel worse.

You are doing fantastic and you are moving forward with your goals. Keep going and you will get there!

What are three things you are happy about today? What is something you can do right now to give yourself a mood boost?

Hey,

Does anyone else have days, where you get so frustrated with where you're at.  I'm having one of those days today, and I'm super agitated.  I hate living at home, it makes me feel like a child.  People I work with have their own place, kids etc.  I'm sure this is just a mood thing, but it just makes me want to drink.  I'm very frustrated today, it doesn't help that the task I have at work is one that will just make you sit and stew about things.

Very annoyed.

- PJ
