Exercise???????/

Hi, I truly believe that exercise can really help with stress, anxiety and panic attacks. In fact the first thing that the psychologist I went to told me, was to go to the swimming pool 2 - 3 times a week. Infact I think there is an anxiety program in Australia that incorporates swimming and exercise. I have personally found that lap swimming has had an incredible effect on the anxiety that I experience. I guess you have to be careful not to overdo it though. But I think cardiovascular exercise (jogging, swimming, bike riding) is great for regulating our breathing and heart rate, I think it sortof brings it back to normal. I also think that during and after exercise we can misinterpret our normal bodily responses as a panic attack, when infact they are normal and healthy. I know I have done this myself! Hope you are all doing well :)

Well I find exercise that I can do by myself (eg walking) is therapeutic but I think the medical reason is that it raises serotonin levels as well as...dopamine? I forget lol But yeah it's aim is to give you a sense of wellbeing

Angry, Every individual is different and exercise may be beneficial in helping you through. Exercise is key for helping weight loss and relieving stress. It has a very clearing effect on some individuals. It also provides more energy and can make you body feel better. Some doctors prefer to try all avenues for their clients before medication. It is worth a try and really can't hurt. Please check with your doctor before beginning a program and work together on creating a program that is right for you. Hope this helps, Josie _______________________________ The Panic Center Support Team.

Hey trnimout22, I find I often feel worse after exercising, especially if I work out at the gym. I feel faint and dizzy. What I began to realise is that at the gym I had always been self concious because I also have psoriasis with red lesions on my legs and I kept thinking everyone was staring and one day I began to think that this feeling of everyone staring was causing anxiety. One day i decided to test this. I walked into the gym and just sat down in the locker room, no exercise. Just sitting there. As I sat there I became very anxious and after about 20 mins I stood up and felt around my neck and shoulders - very very tense. Then after standing up in one spot for 5 mins I began to feel similar dizziness and faintness that I got after exercising. Turns out anxiety was the main cause of that dizziness. I do agree with Angel though that the exercise itself can make you feel the symptoms. Anyway i'm not saying that your self concious or whatever, but for me there was an underlying cause that I wasn't yet aware of and once I was aware of it I was able to overcome it (eventually, lol) so maybe thats what's happening with you? I dunno Hope this helps

Hello. The gym just down the block is my only real 'safe place' and still, I usually feel anxious and even develope panic symptoms beforegoing, but am usually quite calm, (though a bit apprehensive sometimes about leaving the gym) after. If you have chest pain especially during your workout/exertion, it is VERY important to see your Dr. at once, bc that can signal other very serious problems. Wishing you the best, Candle

hello! I think the main cause of this is that we 'think' a panic is coming but its really just NORMAL feelings because we just did a work out. I to experience the symptoms after my work out....but its really just from the workout itself. When people work out, it is normal for their heart rate to rise, for the breathing to get heavier...for you to feel tired etc. So we have to just try and stay positive and think that this is normal! I hope i have helped!

Everyone Please check with your doctor to before beginning a exercise program. The doctor will be able to better assess your situation and come up with a program suited for you. If you are experiencing any type of discomfort, stop the exercise and check with the doctor. Exercise is definitely an excellent way to relieve stress and help with panic. Every body will react differently and symptoms will be unique. Josie _______________________________ The Panic Center Support Team.

I have heard that exercise can be very good for panic and anxiety. I have started to jog everyday to every other day. After I am done I feel like my symptoms may be worse. Is this normal at first? How long does it normally take to feel the benefits of running? Not sure if this has an answer but I thought I would ask the question anyway.
