I have tried a few different kinds of meds and found zoloft to help a little. I am still not up to my full dose. Remember not all meds will work for you. If lexapro does not make you feel any better after a month try something else. THey all effect us in different ways. For me xanax is the kill all it works great but docs dont like to give that out. One piece of advise on Lexapro. If is very strong stuff. Max dose is 20mg and a lot of times docs like to start you out at 10 our 20. If you get bad side effects from that high of a dose at first talk to you doc and ask him to lower it a little. I started at 2.5 then to 5mg. I went to 10 and could not handle the side effects and it did not do much for me so I stopped and tried something else. Just a piece of advise.
After 5 months of dealing with the diagnosis of anxiety my doctor MADE me take lexapro. I fought him on it but was glad I took it. It took awhile to kick in but my family and friends told me they began to notice I was'nt talking about my problems anymore and nothing seemed to upset me that much any longer. I still had some of the irritating physical symptoms of heart palpitations and dizziness, fatigue but was much clamer and relaxed. After awhile I worked with him to ween off the meds because I felt I was able to deal with things better. I was on lexapro for 2-3 years. I'm glad I did it. Every once in awhile I wish I was back on meds, but that is another story. Good Luck
Hi guys, my doctor recently prescribed me some SSRI's (Lexapro) and I'm not sure what to expect.
He did say that they are not the be all and end all, and that it should calm me down enough to make better use of my counselling sessions but thats really all he said. (He does do this deliberately so as not to dump all the info on me all in one heap - something for which i'm thankful)
What I do want to know is if it will make me more calm and stop the panic attacks, or help me deal with panic attacks, or stop the physical symptoms of anxiety etc etc. I've searched the web and got bombarded with statistics and I would rather get some info from other sufferers, particularly anyone who also takes Lexapro
Any help on this would be great.
