Hi Kari, Welcome to our site and please take a look around. Our site is free and very useful. You can browse through the tools, information and most importantly the program. Many members have raved of its usefulness. The site is full of knowledge and support from moderators and other members. You can do a search through "search messages" and it will take you to the topics you most want to read and help weed out the ones you don't. We also have a Panic CBT IM Messenger, this works similar to MSN and you can contact other members for support and advice on your own time with out it being moderated. The key is for everyone to turn on their Messenger when they log on so that there is a greater chance of connecting with others. Well, I can't believe it. I just read all of this and flipped out. I have been experiencing this for years. I thought I was having precursors to heart attack. Keep in mind that I have had a cardiac ultrasound. It does not help when you work in the medical profession with psychiatrists and psychologists, as this makes you more "aware", as if you could possibly be more aware. I did notice that the feeling in my throat almost never happens any more, but I was told that my "extra beat" was due to hormonal changes of pregnancy. That was years ago, and it is still having that hard beat, though sometimes more than others. I have just started in this, and I am very impressed. I really thought that I was experiencing it worse than other people as I have gone through this for almost 12 years. The funny part is that even though my doctors know what I have and gave me medication, they did not tell me how to defeat it other than to take the medication, which does not always work. As well, sometimes I feel like I might have to take more for it to be effective, which starts a panic attack over addiction. Seems like after all these years almost everything starts the cycle. I have one question, how do you stay up with the posting, etc. I have just looked and there are many forums, past and present, and I would love to read them all, but don't have the time. As well some are pretty old. Are there "live groups". I noticed that there is 1 person on and so many browsing. What does that mean, besides the obvious? Sometimes, I would just like to come on and get some feedback/support. Kari

Hey Angel! That heart feeling used to be my main focus for panic - now it's dizzy spells. It always seems to be something. Like you beat one, then another crops up. :confuse: Oiy! Anyway, a doctor told me once that once you realize that everyone has this and that it is perfectly normal, most people will stop paying attention to it and it will basically go away. Which it did for me. I still get little ones, but nothing like it was. I used to get it like you are where it feels like your heart drops and shoots up into your chest and throat. Sometimes it would do it once, sometimes a few times. I had to keep telling myself, this is normal, it's ok, I'm not going to die. It took a lot of convincing!! But, just keep telling yourself this over and over to keep the panic at bay and eventually, it will get better. It took me quite a few months to stop panicking about that one! I panicked about it for years and years though - habits are hard to break. Sometimes I still get anxious over the little ones that I do get - but nothing like it was. A cardiologist explained these experiences to me. He said, when your heart beats, it throws out a certain amount of blood with each beat. Sometimes, some of that blood goes back in instead of out. After awhile, when so much of this blood is built up, your heart has to throw out an extra hard beat to push that extra blood out - causing the flippy feeling. Usually, there is a pause and then the extra hard beat, and then you will have a few fast beats in order for your heart to get back into rhythm. This is very normal and every person experiences this. We just pay more attention to it. But, this does not harm your heart. Hope that helps! :)

thanks vickers! ur so informative! I have been actually doing the bike for 15 min. So i think i'm gonna start again with the 15 min until i get better at it! Also, just about the fast heart beats, I am getting this feeling where i feel like my heart just drops....like an extra stronggg beat that just comes out of no where...i guess these are heart palpatations. They feel so awful. Did you get them as well? or anyone here?

Hey Angel! If you're just starting to exercise after quite awhile of not doing it, I suggest starting slowly. Like 20 minutes a day or less if you feel you can't quite do that just yet. Anything is better than nothing. After a couple weeks, go for maybe 25 mintues and then after a couple weeks of that, go for 30. They say you should workout at least 30-45 minutes a day. Personally, I do 30 minutes. I try to work out every day, but sometimes it's just not possible. I do notice that when I don't work out, I feel extra groggy that day. My doctor told me you should work out every other day to give your muscles a chance to recover in between workouts. He said as long as you workout most days of the week (4 or 5) that it is very beneficial for your health. More, of course, is better - but just four or five days a week will do the trick. I also read somewhere that you don't have to work a straight 30 minutes at a time. You can break it up throughout the day in two 15 minute increments and still get the same benefits. If you are working out for health, I'd say every other day is enough. If you are working out to lose weight, I would say every day is better. But, like I said, start slowly. There's no rush! You get stronger every day you exercise. Hope that answers your question. :)

HI Vickers4! wow, you really had good information in your post. The heart beat thing has been worrying me for a while. I am even going to doctor soon to check it out. But your information helped me a lot. Cause my heart beats really fast especially after i eat. So thanks for the heads up!! Oh by the way, i'm gonna start doing exercise again. I had to stop cause i have been so busy with school. But i promisei will get back to it. Do you do it every single day? or every other day is ok too?

Hey guys! Thanks for sharing your experiences with the dizzy spells. It's like, logically, I know it's just from the anxiety, but panic being anything but logical, I keep thinking, yeah, but, what if.... I'm sure you all relate to that! :confuse: As far as the fast heart beat goes, I used to have this same problem for years and years and years. I started exercising again about a year ago and it has helped my heart rate tremendously! It used to always be close to 100. Now, it's usually in the high 70s low 80s. Take a walk every day. Just 30 minutes if you can - start out slowly if you haven't exercised in a long time. I know it's scary because it makes your heart beat faster, but remember that your heart is a muscle and it needs to be worked out to be stronger. Exercise will help to regulate it's function. Also, I read in a cardiology magazine that your heart rate fluctuates naturally all day. Depending on the position your sitting in, if you're standing, if you're laying down, if you need to drink some water, if you're hungry, if you're anxious, etc. It is constantly changing. Even after you eat, your heart rate increases. When you're sleeping, your heart rate increases. The only way to really measure your accurate heart rate, is first thing in the morning before you eat or drink anything. Sit in a comfortable relaxed position, not when you're feeling anxious, sit for a few minutes and that will be the best way to get the closest measurement to your accurate heart rate. HI dana and everyone! My heart beats fast when i'm just sitting too. I went to my doctor, i did a stress test. Thats when they make you run on a treadmill so that they monitor your heart rate. However, they could not even read mine because my heart was beating fast to begin with. So they could not find a difference between before and after. this made me paranoid. so now, i'm gonna do a holtar monitor for my heart. I hope everything turns out well. One question, when it beats fast, do you have shortness of breath?

It is nice to know that others experience a pounding heart. Most days I experience my heart pounding really hard, almost loudly, and my heart rate is quite elevated. This happens even if I am just sitting on the couch or not doing anything physically exerting. I saw a cardiologist, did some tests and was told I am fine. My cardiologist couldn't explain why my heart pounds so hard and so fast at times. I was told that whatever the cause, it is not dangerous because my heart is healthy. Now that I don't have anxiety about actual heart problems, the only thing I feel when my heart pounds hard or fast is annoyance.
