Bump!
It's the holiday season for many people. Lots of triggers and over drinking for many as well. Who will be trying to cut back or stay sober over the holidays? What are your concerns? What's you're plan so far? Let's chat about it.

Thanks Ashley, Realizing I am an alcoholic helped me a lot. I did come into the rooms just before the the 3 big ones Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year that was 16 years ago. The fellowship helped me intially but once I understood what we are up against, applying the 12 steps of AA I was able to experience the 10th step promise:

For by this time sanity will have returned. We will seldom be interested in liquor.

If tempted, we recoil from it as from a hot flame. We react sanely and normally, and we will find that this has happened automatically.

We will see that our new attitude toward liquor has been given us without any thought or effort on our part.

It just comes! That is the miracle of it. We are not fighting it, neither are we avoiding temptation.

We feel as though we had been placed in a position of neutrality safe and protected. We have not even sworn off.

Instead, the problem has been removed. It does not exist for us. We are neither cocky nor are we afraid. That is how we react so long as we keep in fit spiritual condition.

Amethystgypsie,

Way to go.   Getting through the "firsts" sober can be really challenging.    But it's a great accomplishment when we get through them sober.   I hope you'll remember how good you felt, staying sober the next time you're in a social situation where the alcohol is flowing.

Way to go AmythestGypsy!  Hold on to this feeling - remind yourself of how great you feel the next time you may feel challenged.  These are steps to success!

Parties and holidays are huge triggers for me.  Yesterday I threw a party for my Fiancee's 30th, and I was sober!!!!  ALL NIGHT!  There were other people drinking around me.  I wanted to.... but it was kind of nice not being drunk by the end of the night, and no hangover this morning.  My kids were up early and I wasn't grouchy :D  WINNING!!!  lol
