Hi Judy, My Docs got me on 0.5mg of Clonazepam twice daily. I also break them in half. And also like you I have been offered anti-depressants and turned them down after doing research. Check out askapatient and search for ratings of any drug. I find that it at least gives as many positives as negatives. But this is still not a true representation because there are many more positives out there who don't bother to write in. Anti-anxiety drugs like clonazepam mask the symptoms of anxiety without effecting the root cause like SSRI and SNRIs do (seratonin, adrenaline, dopamine). Anti-anxiety medication can also be habit forming, this probably why your doctor wants you to try something else. Look into Effexor also, it's an SNRI which is supposed to have the fewest side effects. Hope this helps, FIXING

Hi judy, Fellow members will be responding soon. Please don't hesitate to follow up with your doctor about your medication concerns. If you are hesitant to discuss various concerns with your doctor you may want to use parts of our online program to aid in your follow up appointment. Help is available. Finding the right combination of medications and therapy may take a bit of time. Medications can be helpful in two ways: First, they can reduce the number or panic attacks you have and how severe they are. Second, they can help you relax so that you're not always worried about having a panic attack. When people find that their panic attacks are less frequent and severe, they're often more able to approach situations that they've been avoiding. The choice of which drug to use is based on considerations of safety and your personal needs and preferences. There are now many medications available to treat panic disorder so if one medication is not right for you, there are usually others to try. Most of the medications that are prescribed to treat panic disorder are usually started at a low dose and then the dose is gradually increased to the full dose. Every medication has side effects but they usually become tolerated or diminish with time. If side effects become a problem your the doctor may advise you to stop taking the medication and to wait a week, or longer. Keep us posted, Casey ______________________________________ The Panic Center Support Team

hope everyone is having a great day. im in a catch 22 position. iwas diagnosed with panic disorder about 6 years ago. ive had panic for over 30 years. my panic has gotten different then it used to be such as a very rapid heart beat, the arteries on both sides of my neck hurt when i have them and sometimes it takes hours for it to go away.they triedcgiving me paxil which gave me sever attacks so i couldnt use it. im currently on clonazepam .05 mg one half in the am and 1 and a half in the evening before bed.seen my dr. this saturday and asked about upping my dosage but was told no. so they wanted for me to try lexapro which after raeding about i decided it was a no go. im not a druggy. i hate taking meds and all i want is to have panic free days. i dont think im taking to much of my drug.i cant seem to communicate with my dr. all i want is to be able to try .05 when and if i have them. any suggestions?im tired of worrying about the next attack. sry this is so long
