Migraine- need reassurance!

for 18 år siden 0 23 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hi Kelly I get migraine headaches and every symptom you mentioned. Try wrapping a shaving cream can in a small towel and placing it behind your neck while laying down in a dark room. I know it sounds weird but my husband used to work for the Vancouver Grizzlies basketball team and this is what they would do before a game if anyone had a headache. It does work. As for the dizziness, I was told to make myself dizzy by spinning around then stand there and feel the effects of it. After you do it for a period of time, you are no longer afraid of how it feels so the symptom lessens dramatically. This info works for me so I hope it works for you. Let me know if it helps.

Hi Toni, Thanks so much for writing. I'm so sorry to hear about your dizziness. Ugh, it's so difficult. It sounds like you handle it very well. I hope today has been better for you. I feel like my dizziness has gotten a bit better in the last few days, but the pain and pressure is still there. It's so frustrating because I am not taking any medicine (nothing will work) so I'm just trying my best to not focus on the pain. I know the more I think about it the worse it feels, but I can't get it to go away completely. I pray it's nothing serious, but I keep telling myself the CT scan would have shown something. My eyes are also hurting- like my eyelids too. They feel sore and tired. I hope that's just another symptom. Thanks again for listening. I hope I can be of help to you too.

Hi Kelly, I get dizzy all the time!! I can be standing still - it is always worse if I am picking my kids up from school - all the noise I guess, but it feels like I am swaying. If I am in meetings I am focusing on trying to keep straight & get rid of the dizzy feeling instead of listening to what anybody is saying!! I hate the dizziness the most, I have had it constantly and I don't have an answer to it except to say that most of us suffer from it. If you make a movement or all of sudden you feel vertigo - like the inside of your head had dropped or spun around. Its horrible and I would love to be rid of it. I have not finished the CBT on here, which I think would help me but the dizziness is just a symptom of panic, we never faint, we never fall over we just have to accept it & talk ourselves through it as it comes. It really helps me too to be able to put how I feel in writing. Its nice to know you're not alone. Hope you got some rest, Toni

Thanks for writing Toni, it really helps! Do you get dizzy at all? I have a very hard time walking and balancing, which of course triggers my anxieties. It also makes it hard to do anything! I hate it because I'm trying not to focus on it, but when I have hard time trying to do anything it makes me crumble. I hope this is common and will pass. It's been constant for about 5 days now and hasn't let up at all!

Hi Kelly, I get many physical symptoms with my panic, the jaw & temple ares are were you tend to feel the most when you have been tensing without realising it. Like now... you could probably drop your shoulders :) My headaches can vary, my eyes are my main giveaway as I cannot focus as much - that can last for days. I get pain in the side of my head and then it can feel as though its floating or vertigo? Hard to explain, but I notice if I am busy with something it goes away. The problem with me is I cannot take anything - so if my neck is tense it creates a real headache & I am stuck with it - then I panic that I am having a stroke or I am bleeding internally & the pressure mounts again, causing more tension and on and on I go. (I am quite exhausting!) The good thing is you realise that you suffer from panic and anxiety - it means you can control it to a certain degree, or at least your thoughts to ensure you get rest & live a little. I know a lot of my headaches & migraines stem from back & neck trouble - but I cannot go to a chiropractor as I am worried they will twist or damage a blood vessel - I really know how you feel! If getting a spinal tap will put your mind at ease at least then you can deal with the panic symptoms after knowing full well that you are dealing with anxiety and panic - not a life threatening issue. You would make the right decision either way as your doctors are happy with you now - they believe you to be safe, however it would put your mind at ease - win/win either way. I go through this everyday, I also get new symptoms that throw me out again as I would think if I didn't have that symptom before it must be medical - so be as prepared for that as possible ;) Take care, Toni

Hi Toni, Thank you so much for your kind response. This migraine is so unusual for me- it's not so much a headache as the sides of my face (temples/jaw area) are tight and have so much pressure. It's like it hurts to yawn or chew. I am worried that I didn't get the spinal tap. The doctor said that paraylsis can occur in rare cases from the procedure so that is really what scared me off. I am wishing I would have had it now so I could be 100% certain. They were concerned that I could be bleeding and that the CT scan might have missed. Since I have never had pain like this they were concerned since it is unusual for me and has gone on for days with no relief. If the pain would just leave I feel like I could finally feel better. If medicine isn't helping, I'm starting to think nothing else will. On the other hand the scan is 98% and that is really good. I have been so stressed regarding this head pain that I could very well be making it worse- not to mention like you said, focusing on it all the time can't help. My panic has reached an all time high in the last 6 months so I guess this head pain could just be a result of that. I've never had such intense phsyical symptoms with my stress/anxiety so this is all new to me. From what I am learning it sounds like stress/anxiety can really make you feel horrible- like worse than I ever imagined. Maybe that is what this is. When you get your headaches- do they last long? Do they interfere with your life? Are they located in certain areas? Any info you can provide is so greatly appreciated. I hope you are well and can't thank you enough for your kindness.

Hi Kelly, I am a miagraine sufferer and I have Panic Disorder (for about 4 years now). I am going through the same thing as you at present and I also worry about dying in my sleep or when I am alone... it is much worse today than usual. We tend to focus on things when our panic is at its worst, it can take up all of your time. I find I don't want to do anything as I would rather sit on the couch and think about my symptoms. Today I have tired, unfocused eyesight, I have very heavy legs and I have a headache which has been going on now for three days. I cannot take anything for the pain as I worry I may have a reaction to it. My neck is very tense & sore (probably from not relaxing), I'm dizzy and I am worried I may be in line for a stroke and/or worse. I too have had all the checks and believe me 98% is very normal! No doctor will say you are 100% in case something out of the ordinary happens and they become liable. I am concerned too, I shake, I feel tingly - it feels so awful and you feel like nobody understands how urgent the matter is... but you are going to be fine. It is horrible and it is very scarey but it will pass. I have had these feelings now (gone to ER's and doctors) for years and only recently am I accepting that it is panic and anxiety and that there is not a lot I can do about it, no matter how many times I get checked for blood clotting or similar I worry about the fact the doctor may have missed something & I should go back tomorrow if I still feel the same. I am not dying, I constantly think about it, but in reality how many millions of people are walking around every day & don't give it a second thought? We are sensitive, our symptoms are 10 times worse than the average person with a miagraine, headache etc. I hope it gets better for you, this site is wonderful for venting and getting advice - use it often. I hope you get some rest tonight and enjoy tomorrow that much more. Toni

Hi, Thank you for your concern. My migraine was not better today and because of this I was very concerned. I called my doctor but he did not have any available appointments this week so I decided to go the ER. I had a CT scan and they said that it was normal. They said that it is only 98%, so I could have spinal tap to detect if there was bleeding that could not be detected by the scan. At first I was going to get it, but then I got scared and was so tired from being at the ER (5 hours) that I decided it wasn't worth it. I'm kinda worried since I didn't get it since there is a 2% chance something is wrong with me. They gave me Vicoden for the pain and I am going to try it tonight (although I'm worried about taking it). I'm just hoping this will go away and I won't die in my sleep or slip into a coma. Ugh. Thanks again for your support.

Hi Kelly333, Just wondering how you are doing this morning? Although headaches can be associated with increased stress and anxiety, if you do not see improvement soon, please be sure to consult with your health care provider. We look forward to hearing from you soon, Casey _____________________________________ The Panic Center Support Team

Hey Kelly, I don't know much about the migraines, I outgrew mine when I was a kid. I do get long lasting headaches when I have been stressed for a while. The I start to worry about the headaches and cause myself to have panic attack. I purchased an interesting device called a resperate machine that helps me with breathing exercises. That helps me to calm down a lot. You can find it online by serching for resperate. Sorry I couldn't help more, but i'm sure there are a lot more anxiety sufferers out there that have the headaches too. Just stay positive. Joe.
