The "Out of the Blue" Anxiety/Panic Attack

for 18 år siden 0 375 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hey Beth, Hope your feeling better now! I am really happy that you spent the day distracting yourself by doing the things you love most (such as cowboys ;)...that is a wonderful strategy to use. I also wonder why these panic attacks just come out of the blue. But I really believe that its because we are thinking about them and fearing them deep deep deep down inside of us. It may be in our subconcious and we probably aren't so aware that we are thinking about it. Thats why we just have to strengthen ourselves and learn not to fear them. It will take time of course.....but i know we can all do it. Its possible! hang in there. Hope u have a better day today ! :)

Hi Beth, Thanks so much for responding and for your support. It's so hard for me when it happens at work because I don't want to seem unprofessional or that I don't have it all together you know. I've had anxiety and panic disorder for about three years but it went away for awhile and then returned even stronger last year. I had to take a sick leave from work and hardly left my house for about a month. I'm better now but when they sneak up on me like that it can be very discouraging. Thanks for your support. Good luck with your pies and think about how delicious they will be once their done :p I'll check in on you tomorrow to make sure you're alright too. Thanks again Lauren

Hi Lauren :) Welcome! I am sorry that you had an unexpected attack. Isabella and I had the same question this week and I was supposed to ask my councelor today and totally spaced. :( I will be asking her next Tues and I'll let you know as soon as I do. Until then, you did the right thing and it's good that you know your symptoms so that you can take action. YES feel PROUD of yourself for handling it so well! I often feel the "gastro effect" from hightened anxiety as well so know thats normal. How long have you had anxiety? I think you are right about the holidays, etc.. It was only going to be my husband and 2 children here for Thanksgiving until yesterday some clients of mine invited themselves to my home for dinner.. Now I have 12 people coming.(how does that happen anyway??!! haha) I still have to get out to Shaws, make about 10 pies tomorrow (I make all of them from scratch so it takes longer) and also clean the house, get the table ready, chairs, silverware blah blah blah ... I guess you can say I am under some turkey day stress!! ;) Why dont you try to write down in here your stress's and maybe that will help you. I just wrote all that stress out above and I feel way better!! I acually started to laugh half way through the paragraph. I'll be in and out of the group all night so I'll be able to respond to you as well. I think you will really like being part of this group- there are super people in here to support you and listen. I'll check back later on, Beth :)

Hi Beth, my name is Lauren and this is my first day on the Panic Center. I had an ou tof the blue panic attack about an hour ago, and I don't know what brought it on other than possibly some extra tasks I've taken on at work. It happened so suddenly and with mine, it often feels like I'm going to have diarrhea, which is never good at work. I took a clonazapam and went out for some fresh air but now I just feel absolutly exhausted. I know the holidays can be stressful and so can taking on extra work so maybe the two of us just need to follow that song, que sera sera, whatever will be will be. We can only do our best and as long as we give things our best effort than we should take pride in that instead of worrying about what could go wrong, went wrong, or could be better. Does that make sense?

Hi Isabella, Can you belive that I totally forgot to ask my councelor about the unexpected attacks and why they happen? I am SO sorry about that. We were really consumed this session with dealing this week with the anniversary of my assault that we got pretty held up with that instead. Pretty important stuff and it needed to be covered. In any event, I will ask her next Tuesday when I go and let you know. So Sorry!! ((sigh- getting older!! lol)) Beth :)

Beth, Those "out of the blue" attacks are the absolute worst! I know how you are feeling because most days that I have unexpected attacks are days that my anxiety is low and I am enjoying myself. I wonder why this is? Is it that we are so used to having attacks and our body is so used to the attacks that if we feel "normal" our body has to throw one at us so we continue the cycle or is it that "normal" becomes the imbalance caused by attacks? I am interested is hearing what your couselor has to say so keep me posted. Uncued attacks are the worst kind. They keep you worrying because you never know when one might hit you. This is how alot of us develop agoraphobia and Panic Disorder. Don't you just hate it!

Hi Josie, Thanks for the support and the good idea to write these things down. I have done so this afternoon and will bring it with me tomorrow. Thanks again! Beth

Beth, You are on the right track and asking the right questions. Take the time to write them down and use this with your doctor to help assess the situation better. You did a great job yesterday and today you may have been a little off. Take some time and write it all down. By challenging those thoughts you will stay on top of this. Keep Strong, Josie _______________________________ The Panic Center Support Team.

Can anyone in the group tell me why panic and anxiety just pop up out of the blue? Has anyone experienced "delayed" anxiety and panic? I am asking because I was having a normal day with little to no stress really. A bit of normal stress about Thanksgiving, guests coming, finances, etc but nothing I cannot handle. I was watching my friend's son for her and we were making out his Christmas Wish List, playing with Legos, the norm. His Father came to pick him up, I went about my business and then "BAM" was hit with vertigo swaying me all over the place which proceeded to scare the bigeebee's out of me causing my pulse to start going faster, my breathing to get all messed up, me thinking I was having a stroke or blowing a clot etc etc etc blah blah blah.... you know the story from there. I have been doing my breathing, trying to distract myself, etc and it is helping somewhat but not all the way. Seems I could be on the verge of a pretty bad panic attack if I dont stay on top of it. My thought is this. Yesterday was the 5th anniversary of me being assualted in my home. I spent the day listening to music, getting Christmas lights out of the barn, brushing my horses and watching the most amazing Cowboys game I have seen since the 80's (I am the ultimate Cowboys fan). My point is that even though I am still in the same house and I didnt get a lot of sleep (the attack was in the middle of the night so I knew I wouldnt really sleep last night) I tried to "be good to myself" yesterday and avoid stress at all cost and it seemed to work really well. I was proud of me. So, why is it that I am having this very hard to control anxiety today?? Whats going on? I see my counselor tomorrow morning and I will ask her but I really until then could use some kind of info and support from you guys in here. Any thoughts are apprieciated. Thank you Beth
