Feelings

Thank you SO much for your thorough response. I suppose that upon awakening, I could be naturally a bit frightened about the day that awaits me. My boyfriend works at home but he really can't be bothered, and I worry about trying to keep myself in control while alone so I can leave him to his own day. This causes me quite a bit of distress all on it's own as I am under pressure to keep my cool all the times. Also, I don't get out much these days and when I have attacks at home they are by far the worst attacks ever...I usually don't recognize them as such, and therefore could be stuck thinking that I have severe mental illness for hours (therefore only feeding the panic and anxiety further). Thank you again for your response. If anything it's nice to know that I am not completely alone...

Maggie, As you can see you are not alone. Panic occurring during sleep is not yet well understood, however, some research suggests it may be linked to panic levels experienced the day/evening before. Keep working through the program and try to keep challenging those anxious thoughts. Hopefully with time, as you learn to exhert control, this anxiety upon awakening will decrease also. If this anxiety is keeping you from sleeping and severely interfering with your daily life, it may be wise to consult your mental health professional. Hope this helps. Maggie, About 8 months ago the same thing was happening to me. I would wake up and instantly have anxiety/feel anxious. It made things worse because it was like, why am I anxious when I am just waking up and haven't had a chance to even think about my anxiety? I would wake up and feel like everything was "hazy" and it would feel like my heart was pounding. Every morning this would happen and I would get up, even if I still wanted to sleep, and have to clean to get my mind off of the physical symptoms. I would also feel dizzy and nauseated. Luckily I have gotten out of that. I am not even sure when it all stopped but I don't have that feeling in the morning anymore. I know alot of it had to do with the fact that I would be alone in the mornings and afternoons with my son and I would be really scared that something was going to happen to me and no one would know and my son would have to be alone. I worked through the anxiety of being alone and once I got over being scared of that, the anxiety in the mornings seemed to go away. Are you alone at this time? That could be a possible explanation, that you wake up and you are alone and you may not even realize you are thinking this but this triggers the anxiety? Just a reach at something, i guess. Anyway, it can't last forever so you just have to keep working through the anxious thoughts. But trust me, it is easier said than done and I still go through many days of being totally consumed by my anxiety. Good luck with everything and just keep working through it :)

I was wondering if anyone here ever wakes up and experiences major anxiety or panic almost immidiately? For example, do you ever wake up and feel a bit surreal or in a daze and that's enough to set your panic off? Also,if you have experienced this- do you ever have major anxiety on/off all day long following this as you feel you are in a blur? Thanks so much.

Hi Jo, yes I get those feelings as well as many others. I just try not to focus on them and continue on with what I'm doing. The more you let the symptoms scare you the worse it gets!! Try the cbt therapy on this site it will help!!
