David, Considering everything that you are quitting, the alcohol and cigarettes especially, it is no wonder you are having all of these symptoms like grogginess, short-tempered, anxious, etc. These things are drugs that your body gets used to having and if you quit them, which is a good thing, your body will go through physical and psychological withdrawals but you will better after sticking it out. Just keep in mind it may take a while. However, you have survived a bout of anxiety before and you will do it again. You will be fine just keep yourself occupied, try not to focus too much on the physical stuff, and have patience. Good luck going back to work and back to a new town. Stay posive. ~Isabella~

Alright, I made it to Ottawa and felt incredibly anxious but have practiced breathing and progressive muscle relaxtion and have calmed down. I even went to face the place where the anxiety attack that started it all started and made it through. I just feel so spaced out for the past week since the attack........It's annoying, it could be im on day 7 of qutting smoking aswell I guess.

David, it is normal after a setback or relapse for things to be harder at first, but as you manage to tackle new things and conquer stuff and triumph over things, it starts getting better i assure you. Just hang in there and you will be ok! -Diva

Arg, Lately I've just felt really out of it, I was on effoxor for 5 days and then decided meds were not right for me. I have been waking up every night for the past 4 nights at around 4:30am which normally never happens to me even with sleep medication really anxious, I have began learning breathing techniques that seem to help a little but Havne't felt fully refreshed in awhile, I just wake up anxious. And Lately i've just been extremely edgy, feeling aggitated and getitng angry and annoyed for no good reason....Is this normal for Panic disorder/being on Day 7 of no smoking Day 3 with no nicotine whatsoever. I have started aeorbic exercise which has helped and progressive muscle relaxation but am losing motivation because although i dont feel as anxious I have just felt incredibly out of it, short fuse, groggy, quick tempered. Im also on day 15 of no drinking and I used to drink alot. I have been doing exposure exercises and been forcing myself to sit through things but Im just having trouble wiith my mind being all out of it, I did however stop taking effexor yesdterday after 5 days of taking it after deciding it wasnt right for me. Any suggestions, is feeling out of it and groggy normal. I have a huge challenge today and im pretty scared about the next 24 hours, I have to leave my family and friends and go back to a city 5 hours away in which I mdont know anyone and then tommorow I have to start work again in which I took a week off after suffering a Massive panic attack in whcih I felt i was losing my mind. I have fought anxiety before and was anxiety free for almost 2 years after a bought always worrying about health concerns but i've fought and learned to control that, but now Im fighting with trying to tell myself im not crazy and this is just the disorder. Arggg, I just need some motivation to keep on fighting

David, If you're quitting smoking, your anxiety levels may increase temporarily. Please know that quitting smoking is one of the best things you can do for your anxiety levels as the constant withdrawals nicotine put your body through raise your anxiety levels. If you need help quitting, we have a sister site that may be of help to you: www.stopsmokingcenter.net and www.alcoholhelpcenter.net if you'd like to reduce your alcohol consumption. Hope this helps. David, Are you quitting cigarettes too? When my anxiety first set in I quit smoking cigarettes because it stimulates you and I didn't like having the racing heart. When I quit I had horrible anxiety, depression, trembling, dizziness, fatigue, and nausea. It was the worst thing I've ever gone through but I got through it and it got better. You could be having some effects from that. I have also seen alot of people have panic attacks after smoking weed and that is why I never did it myself to cope with anxiety. However, my mom suffers from severe anxiety and Multiple Sclerosis and she smokes pot in the evenings and this is when she is her most relaxed, calm, and anxiety-free self. She says that it relieves her anxiety but that she has had panic attacks after getting high in the past. That is why I am not judgemental of people who do smoke pot to calm themselves but I believe that panic sufferers and anxiety sufferers do much better by knowing that nothing is in their system affecting their perception, as we all hate feeling that we don't have control over things. I wish you the best of luck and just have comfort in knowing that you are not alone. You will be fine, I'm sure.

I know Marijuanna is bad and it does give me anxiety, but I smoked it everyday for 9 months and never I would have anxiety sometimes but would learn to fight it and condition myself which may be why I was good for so long. I have alot of thoughts where they just wont leave no matter what and I find marijuanna helps my mind stop thinking and things dont bother me as much. But I however did stop 3 weeks ago and felt anxiety slowly build and when I smoked lastnight I felt fine and went out and finally was able to sit still and relax, it seemed to completely get rid of all the anxiety I had. I know this probably isn't the best solution but im also quitting smoking at the same time which has been difficult so Im not sure maybe I was going through marijuanna withdrawl which triggered anxiety, I have no idea. I'd rather quit both but I find it really relaxes me

I just thought I'd post this information about marijuana since it came up in this thread. It's extremely common for people to use it, but an extremely bad idea for any of us in this group. Why? Well here is a list of common side effects of marijuana that I pulled off of a medical website: - Trouble remembering things - Sleepiness - Anxiety - Paranoia (feeling that people are out to get you) - Altered time perception - Tremors (shaking) - Nausea - Headache - Breathing problems If there is anything that we don't need, it's more of these symptoms!!! I can testify from watching some of my friends, by the way, that these side effects are real and not just something doctors and police talk about to scare people out of using illegal drugs. So if anybody is using marijuana right now, I highly recommend stopping. It could go a long way to helping your anxiety symptoms improve. Note: as with stopping any medication, there is a short period of withdrawal that may involve depressed feelings, trouble sleeping, and nausea. It's well worth it to push through these, though, as the end result will be a significant decrease in anxiety symptoms.
