In my family there are many anxious people but not to the point of having a disorder. But my grandma on my moms side has anxiety and my aunt has panic disorder. -Diva

In answer to your question about family members: My Grandma (not the one I went to visit today) has panic attacks. I have a couple of aunts on that side who have had problems with it, too. I also have a cousin on that side who has a phobia of vomiting (or seeing other people vomit) that was pretty debilitating for her for a long time and still causes some problems for her. I also have a cousin on that side with some severe PTSD issues - although that's only partly to do with genetics and mostly to do with some horrible things that happened to her as a kid. Several of my cousins, my dad, and 3 of the 5 of us kids in my family pass out at the sight of blood and really freak out about needles (and I mean REALLY freak out). While that might sound like a lot of people in my family with anxiety-related issues, I'm not sure it's all statistically significant, given that my dad is one of 13 kids and I've got over 50 first cousins on that side. P.S.: We all (with the exception of that one cousin with ptsd and my grandma) had happy childhoods and were brought up in loving households where we didn't really witness any traumatic events or anything. We're also all "easy going," "laid back" people - which is funny since it seems completely at odds with the anxiety we get.

Wholesale and Diva ty for all your input and anyone else here for that matter. That is fantastic Wholesale that you drove sp far and twice without panicking hooray for you! I hope to be there soon also. Today I went out in the cold and sat in the passenger seat of the car for a few minutes in order to get myself acclimated to the feeling of the seat without any signs of panic. I plan to do this on the drivers side every day and then eventually take the car for a spin around the block. My husband is getting so weary of this. He says it is just selfish shenanigans. He's realy feeling it because our son has severe panic attacks too. do any of you have panic running in your families?Text

Hi! I strongly recommend working through this program. My main goal right now is to be able to drive without panic. Driving used to be my favorite way of unwinding. Now it's one of the most anxiety producing things in the world to me. I've been using it as an exposure goal, and (although I've had some setbacks) it has been going really well. Today was the best day I've had in months. I drove all the way to my grandma's house today (about a half hour drive with 20 minutes on the freeway), then all the way back ... TWICE!!! It was great. Well... it was aweful the first time, but I hung in there and by the last trip home I was feeling so proud of my self! I was so excited! I was able to challenge my anxious thoughts and endure panic attacks without letting them run my life today. If I can do it, you can do it! I have a long way to go before I'm going to be able to drive long distances without any problems at all... but after today I feel pretty sure that I will be able to get to that point eventually.

Tatiana, Welcome to The Panic Center. We thank you for sharing your story with us today. This support group is full of supportive individuals who may be able to help you answer some questions regarding panic and anxiety. If you look to the left of the screen under "TOOLS" you will find many supportive tests. These tests are not diagnostic tools and are not a replacement or substitute for a physicians advice. The purpose of these tests is to prepare you with information that you can present to your physician. When you're finished the test, you can either print your Final Report or email it directly to your doctor. We also have developed a Panic Program. This program is 12-weeks and involves the tools mentioned above. Each session is based on the previous session, so we strongly advise that you work slowly through the program and not jump ahead. If you have any questions or concerns with our "TOOLS" you can contact our support department at support@paniccenter.net. Take care and we hope to hear from you soon. Greetings to all. I am new here and am working hard to rid myself of agoraphobia which debilitates me to the point that I can't or won't drive or even want to ride ina car. The very first attact was when I was driving the car 4 yrs. ago. I got to a 4 way intersection at a red light, panic so bad that I wanted to jump out of the car whther it was moving or not. It was only by Gods' grace that I didn't do it. Somehow I travelled the 8 mis. to home. Since then I've had panic attacks off and on. Sometimes I feel like I want to let go of the steering wheel. Anybody else suffer like this? :) tatiana3
