Jaw discomfort

Angel, I have virtually the same problem! I grit my teeth both night and day. I've had 4 root canals for tooth aches from the pain of grinding my teeth. (I thought I had tooth problems, but the same teeth still ache after the root canals!) I also have a jaw that "snaps" while chewing, it's very uncomfortable and upsetting! I now use a night-time mouthguard that helps considerably. You can buy them at most any drug store or Wal-Mart for around $15-$20. It takes a couple nights to get used to using it, but makes your teeth and jaw feel a whole lot better! And I know it's difficult, but if you catch yourself clenching your jaw, try to concentrate on relaxing the jaw muscles. HTH, Good Luck!

Actually you were a greatttt help! Thats EXACTLY what happens to me. I'm assuming i may grind at night. Not sure, cause i have no one sleeping beside me yet to notice haha. But i do wake up with tension the jaw/face area and thats why my headaches start! I do remember radha posting something about the jaw. I even gave her exercises to do lol.....i am doing those exercises and they help a lot. I just wanted to make sure others were experiecing something similar. Thanks for reminding me about that post, i totally forgot haha (thats another sign of memory problems hahaha) Thanks Diva. By the way, I always meant to tell you this....but I just want to say that i think your an excellent person. You always help others. You never fail! No matter what, you are always there to provide your input. So thanks for being so involved. You always bring a smile to my face. You are great. God bless you! :)

Well i don't have exactly the same experience as you with my jaw but i do beleive my jaw problems to be caused by my anxiety. First, during the night i not only bite down on my teeth all night but i also grind my teeth quite badly. My husband once told me he could here my teeth grinding together at night. Now the more anxiety i have had during a day, the more i bite down and grind at night. My hubby has confirmed this relationship between jaw tension and anxiety for me. it has gotten bad enough that i have to wear a bite plate at night. Now if by chance i sleep without it, i wake up with my whole mouth hurting, my teeth , gums and jaw just hurt from the pressure during the night. On top of it it makes me wake up with the worse kind of headaches! Now, i have also noticed that on days where i am more anxious or have anxiety provoking thins to do the bitting down phenomena because a daytime thing. I don't grind during the day cause the sound alerts me to doing it and i stop. But i bite down and this creates immense jaw pressure. Then the lower part of my face hurts and i get really bad headaches. On top of it now, after years of this abuse when i eat my jaw majes the weirdest clicking noise if i eat food that is hard to chew... anyway... All this to say i definetely think jaw tension of any kind is linked to anxiety. I so beleive that! so anyway, i do not have the same experience as you but my heart goes out to you on this. I hope you find something that helps you very soon! Btw there was another thread by radha about jaw problems and the exercises given there are pretty good. I have been using them a bit when my jaw tension gets to bad and it has helped... Sorry i could not be more helpful. -Diva

Hi everyone, I believe i have slight TMJ. But anways, i was just wondering if anyone every felt discomfort in their jaw area. Sometimes, all of a sudden, my jaw feels so weak...and then it gets tight..and then it feels weak and odd again. It makes me feel nausious for some reason. This brings on my panic immediately. Its such a weird sensation in my jaw and face. It freaks me out. Then if my jaw is tense, i get the worrssstttt headache ever! Just wondering if this can be relatd to anxiety...... any input???? Thanks!
