Afraid of having my bp checked

I went to the emergency room during a panic attack about a month ago. I thought I was going to die. It lasted for about an hour and a half so I had my husband take me in. They checked my blood pressure immediately and it was very high. It was 155 over 105. They then checked my blood sugar and it was 105 which was normal. I did take an alpralazam (xanax)and by the time I left there, 2 hours later, my pressure came down to normal. They said your blood pressure does increase during a panic attack and let me tell you, they are right about that. I was so hot, yet my whole body was shivering, including my legs. It lasted over an hour until the xanax kicked in. I don't want to get addicted to xanax and would like a more natural cure but for now, it gets me through these attacks. I am also take a good B complex daily and I never touch caffeine. Caffeine will send me back to the Emergency room! I am not even kidding! I don't know why, but it does cause an panic attack. Ask your doctor and he/she can confirm this.

Mugs, You're not alone. Many members on the forums fear doctors, dentists and worry about their state of health. Instead of worrying about your blood pressure and whether or not it is high, keep working through the program and start tackling the root cause of your fears. If you can tackle the anxiety, your blood pressure is also sure to diminish. Furthermore, you can make having your blood pressure taken an exposure goal as your progress through the program. Keep persevering! Danielle ____________________ The PC Support Team

Well i don't know if my BP is high or not. I am fairly young (or at least i would like to think so lol) but i do worry about my health. I am a bit overweight and my cholesterol is high. Because of the anxiety my heart often is racing. I don't have a BP machine thank heavens or i would use it compulsively and give myself panic attacks. I use to be a pulse checker. Took me long time to stop obsessing about checking my pulse... I try not to obesess so much about the heart thing but it still is there in my mind and I have to challenge my thoughts about it regularly. But I must admit it is getting much better. Anyway, you are not alone in this. 1- Many of us on the forums hate going to the doctor or dentist. 2- Many of us on the forums worry aboutr their health. Anyway, sorry i could not be more helpful but i just wanted you to know you are not alone in this. -Diva

I've been having panic attacks on and of for the past 25 years. Started up again last year due to marriage problems -- when I decided I wanted to leave my marriage the panic attacks started and of course stopped me in my tracks. My husband had never been very sympathetic or understanding. My main worry for the past five years has been my blood pressure. I hate going to the dr for anything so of course my bp is always high -- now that I'm 55 years old I wonder if it really is white coat syndrome and am scared that with all the worry and stress over the years my bp is truly high. I have a home monitor but have been afraid to use it as if my bp were high at home I'd know I really had high bp and would panic. I'm always worried I'm going to have a heart attack or a stroke. Anybody else out there with similar fears?
