Dear Diva, thanks for your post :)) Dear Danielle, no, none of these activties cause me avoidance anymore. I just feel that I don't want anything. OK, this evening I am going to the theatre, but it is not that I am very excited. And I do not feel panicky about it. I just don't want to do many things. No excitement about them. Also, I have a lack of appetite. I am seeing my psychoterapist next week and then we will see what is what. It is also difficult to understand what causes me to feel like that. Do my thoughts lead to feeling depressive or does my depression lead to negative thoughts? I don't understand anything and I am tired of trying to understand all that stuff.:( Very often I have thoughts like- Why me? What have I done? But I'll keep working...

Madara, Do any of these activities cause you anxiety? It could be avoidance. It could also be depression as it is marked by a loss of interest in what was considered previously as pleasurable activities. Again, we recommend you consult with your doctor and continue working through the program as well as our sister site for additional assistance. Keep tackling that root source and push through with your plans! Danielle ___________________ The PC Support Team

I wish I could give you a better answer then this but I am very pressed for time. But when I start getting sad or depressing thoughts I challenge them the same way I challenge my anxious or negative thoughts and it seems to really help! Maybe it could help you too! Also, I find that exercising once a day helps keep me much more happy and less sad, maybe that could help also :) Anyway, hope this helps a bit! -Diva

Diva, I truly agree with you. The fact that we have panic disorder doesn't mean we can't live a happy life! I don't know why but the last days I feel depressed, the same old symptoms of depression but slight ones. I am taking part in organizing an "old maid party" (I don't know if is a correct word in English, but in my language at least we say so :D) for a friend before her wedding, I am planning to go to a short travel in August (by plane :D) and many other things but now it seems I don't want these things anymore! I don't want anything! I am trying to resign from taking part in that party and trying to sell plane tickets to someone who would like to go instead of me. Why? What's happening? I was 100% sure I am going to go! At the same time a month ago I came off antidepressants. Is it only a coincidence?

I have had several major depressions in the past. But I find that since I have been using the tools necessary to keep my anxiety in check my life has improved greatly and I don`t feel depressed anymore. When I do start thinking negative things that could lead me to feel depressed, I challenge those thought the same way I would challenge an anxious thought. I find that many of the tools that help me with my anxiety can be adapted and tranfered to my sadder more depressive symptoms. Anyway, I hope this helps a bit. As for the living with anxiety thing. I beleive it is true that we will live with this and cope with this during our lifetime but I also believe it is possible to have a very happy comfortable life even if anxiety and panic is in our lives. Have a good day! -Diva

But how can it be that before anxiety disorder started I never had that depressive feeling?

Madara, Your physician or therapist is the best authority to assist you in determining the cause of your sadness. It may be related to your anxiety or it may be you've had or are susceptible to depression due to biological factors. Danielle ____________________ The PC Support Team

Thanks everybody for their opinion and experience. I am not afraid to live with panic disorder for all my life if it is only anxiety, I am afraid of depression. In my case, one of the side effects of panic disorder is depression. When I come off medication, I start to feel weird. Perhaps you can smile at this, but I even feel some reaction in my brain, I feel that it comes from the brain. Some imbalance and slight apathy (at the beginning). It is also a slight qualm (if you can understand what I mean) that I feel. It's always when I stop taking antidepressants (Cipralex that belongs to SSRI's) What's wrong??? Don't they work for a long period??? Why does this depressive feeling repeat???? Thanks for any help.

I just wanted to agree with the general sentiment already shared, that we, or I, are the only opponent. I find my panic attacks are worse when I surrender to the physical symptoms and let the panic and fear control me. The only success I've had is calling it a panic attack and crushing the symptoms before they overtake my behaviours and emotions. I realize that is a lot easier to say than to do, but it does give me hope that panic wont control my life - and I hope others feel the same. Tallglassofwater
