Why is this happening to me?

Hi Val, I am sorry for what you are going through and know that it is getting to you. Val please do not think that you are alone because you are not. Some of us may appear to be stronger or on the path to recovery but we have our bad times too. My first panic attack was at 8 years old and then I did not get another till I was 14. It was truly the most scary and confusing time of my life. I suffered for 3 years till I was finally diagnosed with panic/anxiety disorder. It was a long road back but eventually I was able to live a mostly normal life. Now here I am in my 40's and here I go again. It is probably in relation to me beginning peri-menopause. I was devasted to have to start all over again to get this under control. As you read the the other posts you will see that we all suffer in our own ways. Just keep coming back. It will get better.

I read other peoples stories and no one seems to suffer as much as me. I don't know how to deal with the the symptoms that I feel. I feel so alone.

Hi Val, First of all, BIG HUGS!!!!!! You really are having a rough time. I can relate to the whole "why is this happening?", as I started to have panic attacks occasionally in my mid-20s, but as I hit my 30s, they have come on much more. My guess it's because we have more on our plate as we get older and more responsible? Could you be having more attacks because you are worried about your job? Just a guess. As Danielle asked, are there any specific triggers that set you off on an attack? This program has really been helping me, so definitely give it a try. It helps empower you to deal with the attacks and it puts everything into a manageable perspective. Hang in there!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Val, Sounds like you had a really rough day! Any triggers or anxious thought patterns prior to the attack? Danielle, Bilingual Support Specialist

I had another horrible panic attack today. Was so bad that I couldn't move my hands. I went to the hospital again. My husband probably thinks I'm crazy. They suggested that I go to a psychiotrist and I may have to stay in a facility until I get better. I can't do that, I have to work!!! I just wish I could understand why this is happening to me!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Val, I think you need to allow yourself to take the time to get used to your meds. If your Doctor feels you should take time off you should listen. Re-group, come here and work the program, and take time for yourself. It's ok to lean on others when things are difficult. We will do our best to be here for you and offer support. At least we know what you are going through and completely understand. Take care.

Val, Talk to your doctor to see if this is a good idea. Check with your human resource department and lawyer to ensure that your job is not at stake. This may make the choice a little bit easier. You are continuing to challenge yourself and this is commendable. Look into all your option first :) Josie, Support Specialist

Today I felt good, but my boss called me in and said that he thinks I need to take medical leave. I'm so upset about this. I manage an Insurance Agency and I'm really good at what I do. He says my position and pay are not at stake, but I fear that they will be. I told him that I'm not taking the medical leave and I appreciate his concern, but I have to be strong and fight this disorder. Am I making the wrong decision? I don't want something that can be controlled to ruin my life, but it seems it's been 2 weeks and it's already starting to? I'm so lost now, I don't know what to do. I just want to understand why this is happening to me. I'm a strong woman that always works hard and takes care of her family and has a positive outlook on life. My doctor feels it's post traumatic stress disorder. And it may be, but the things that have happened in my past, I've always been able to deal with......why is this happening to me?????

Val, Check with your doctor and pharmacist regarding medication dosages and side effects. It does take time for the medication to get used to you and your body. Also, there is lots of information to peruse here, should your husband want to take a look. Perhaps take some time off until the medication activates and starts working. Give your body the rest it needs. Continue on with the program step by step and use it to challenge those thoughts. We are here for you :) Josie, Support Specialist
