Way to go Aud! I think the steps you took today are very brave :) It is not easy to talk to people . I am glad that you will have help:) As for general practionnaers, in my experience if you can esplain what you need they generally try to help you figure things out :) Anyway, I think you are moving in the right direction and am glad for you :) -Diva

Good morning everyone. Today I go to the Doctor. I am just going to my regular primary care Dr. I had a huge list of mental health and social work professionals and didn't know where to begin. Believe it or not I bared my soul and asked the HR manager what I should do so now they know my issues. I am posting this from work so so far so good! I am digging deep and trying to assimilate and organize what happens to me when. There are definitely certain triggers for me. I understand some of us can have the attacks happen without any notice, anywhere. That must be soooo frightening! I don't think that is the case for me. I have a safe zone, and when either I physically leave it or it is imposed on me (being focused on - the center of public attention) I have an attack. I become nearly incapacitated with fear and dread. I can't imagine that this general practicioner will understand and help me with all of this. I hope she doesn't simply prescribe something. Hi Diva, Thanks so much for commenting on the crying. I'm trying to learn as much as I can about generalized anxiety disorder and panic attacks, but I couldn't find any mention of crying anywhere. I'm very glad to here that they have decreased for you as well. This gives me hope.

Hi Aud, Thanks for the encouraging words and empathy. You say that you have been avoiding too. What sorts of things do you avoid? My world has gotten smaller slowly over the years and I'd like to change that. However, knowing that I'm a perfectionist and expect to do everything at once, I have to force myself to do baby steps. I think this program has a lot to offer and I'm going to try to follow it-one step at a time. I've been to a Doctor and she is helping me tremendously, but I know I have a lot of work ahead of me. She is a general practitioner. I think it helps that she is my family doctor and she has known me for awhile-as opposed to a Dr. at a walk-in clinic. However, she did refer me to a psychiatrist to confirm my diagnosis.

Hiya Aud and kitty! First of all hi and welcome to the forums Kitty! Second, I would like to just say hang in there it can get better. And the program here is great it is helping and has helped me tremendously :) I strongly suggest it :) Also, I would like to adress the crying thing. Now for me crying during an anxiety or panic attack is much less frequent but in the past my attacks were very frequently accompanied by uncontrollable crying. It seems that for some odd reason my feelings of fear of often associated with crying. But I must add that since I have been getting my anxiety more under control I cry a lot less often. Then agqin I also have way less panic attacks and when I do get them they seem kind of less terrifying then they used to be. So hang in there! This really can get better! Rember, this too shall pass! -Diva

Hi Aud, Welcome! You were asking about what type of doctor to see about your concerns - You may want to first consult with your family doctor and they could then recommend someone further if needed. You can take advantage of some of the tools available here on the site to assist with your appointment if you are hesitant to discuss your symptoms. You have found a great place to share your feelings of panic and anxiety with members who truly understand these symptoms. In addition to this online group, we have a free online program designed to help you with your anxiety. It teaches you things you may not understand about panic and agoraphobia, your own panic, your own panic cycle, and as you learn and get involved, you begin the journey and the process of taking back control from a fear that at the moment is controlling you. The Program guides you through the process of getting back this control. It prepares you for this, one single step at a time, and gives you some homework to bring you along from session 1 to session 2, and onward, in a series of 12 sessions over a period of twelve weeks. Hi Kitt, I am new and learning too. I think we realize there is a problem when start avoiding, like not going out or putting ourselves in a situation where we have panicked. I too seem to be making my world smaller and smaller. Have you been to a doctor? What kind of doctor do we talk to about this? Kitt, I know nothing about this stuff, I am just reaching out a hand to let you know how frightening I know it is to have something like this start to take control. We have got to get you back to going to work! Hopefully one of the support people will be here soon and offer some advice. Hang tight :8|:

Hello everyone, I am new to this site and am just starting to learn about anxiety and panic attacks. I am apparently suffering from panic attacks and my symptoms include uncontrollable crying, shaking, and trouble speaking and breathing. I've had this since I was young, but it is now at the point where they are so frequent that I am no longer going to work. The thing that confuses me is that people who have panic attacks supposedly spend a lot of time worrying about when they'll have the next one. But I have never even thought of them as panic attacks! Just as "crying episodes". But I suppose as they got worse, I would be anxious about them happening in public. Also, I have never heard of anyone crying as part of a panic attack. But I am definitely a very anxious person!
