unexpected setbacks - what to do

Hiya Georgie :) I just wanted to say I get where your coming from. I have had panic attacks that came out of nowhere as I relaxed and blindsighted me. And as Vickers pointed out, those are often the most frustrating ones! You are most definetely not alone in this. As for super long panicky days too. Been there too! I just wanted to say, it can get better. This morning I looked at my symptom tracker and realized many days have gone by since I had any real panic attacks. Had peaks of anxiety and sometimes a few physical symptoms of panic but no attacks per se. Considering at one point in my life I had those horrible all day panic sessions, there is definetely hope that it gets better :) The tools of this program are really great. I hope you get as much out of them as I did. -Diva

vickers4, I definately understand the "it will be an all day thing"! I think part of my problem is I take the peaked moment and think about every other possible moment in that day I could be prone to panic. Thanks for your advice. While panic attacks are terrible, it is comforting to know that people understand where you're coming from :)

Hey Georgie! I often have panic attacks at unusual moments as well. I'll be sitting down reading, enjoying the quiet or something, and those feelings will start creeping over me. It makes me so upset because it's not even an anxious moment or anything!! But, what I do is just quickly remind myself that everything is ok. I challenge my thoughts and can usually bring it to a halt, or at least to a controllable level. Take one at a time. It's easier that way. You're having a panic attack, challenge it, reassure yourself over and over that everything is ok, as it goes away, let it go. Try not to anticipate the next one. Just tell yourself, whew.... I got through that one, I am stronger than I thought! Sometimes, for me anyway, it will be an all day thing, but regardless, it helps to take one peaked moment at a time. It's difficult, but that's what I do. Hope that helps!

Hi Georgie, Welcome to the Panic Center! Many on the site have reported being affected by items such as colas, coffee and chocolate. We recommend you begin working through the CBT program. There you'll learn strategies such as thought challenging and relaxation techniques that will leave you better armed to handle your next bout with anxiety. Hang in there. Hi Georgie, It is good that you cut out the coffee but coke has alot of caffiene also as does chocolate. These can also cause heart palpitations. Perhaps next time you experience a bit of panic remind yourself that you have had this feeling before and it does pass. Use some of the exercises they recommend on this site they will help.

Hi, This is my first post as I haven't gotten around to posting in the introduction forum yet. I'm just at the university library trying to study but I am having panic sensations. I was sitting out enjoying the sunshine with a friend and then I started to feel panicky and I then I began to have a full blown panic attack. We then went to the library where I am now and the panic got gradually worse but now I'm feeling okay, still in that shaky, will it get worse stage. I've had a few setbacks lately and this feels like another one because it was in a situation I just don't expect to have one in - when I am enjoying the weather and company. I was just wondering how people dealt with things like these? Am I being too harsh on myself? Also, caffeine hasn't been a problem for me, but I was wondering if it affects other people and their panic as I was drinking Coca Cola at the time. Sorry this is rambly! Does anyone have any ideas/thoughts etc?
