Hi Caden: The religious part of AA meetings is based not on any particular religion - rather that you come to admit that you are powerless over alcohol and that you recognize that there is a "higher power" - this higher power can be God, a Supreme Being or The Creator. It is more spiritual/universal than religious I think. I have a friend in AA and I have supported him in open meetings and celebrated some of his anniverseries, which is a celebration on the date of each yr. of sobriety. Open mtgs. are ones which anyone can attend. Sometimes there are discussion groups which are closed - only for AA members. They have a good life philosophy and a 12-step program which is helpful to almost anyone searching for answers, peacefulness and calm. I have also attended AlAnon meetings because I am the child of an alcoholic (anyone who has experienced an alcholic in his/her life whether related or friend, can attend these mtgs.) and found these mtgs. most helpful in understanding how their disease has affected me in my life.
Hope this helps someone thinking about attending. You are always made most welcome.
Bach Flower remedies or extracts utilize flowers and other plants for their healing properties. They don't treat the physical symptoms directly, but rather work as energetic medicines that treat the negative emotional states that lead to the symptoms or behaviour.
Many individuals do swear by them so it may be something worth trying. You do have to match up your emotional state well with the flower essence in order for it to be effective.
Any luck with the Bach Flowers extracts? What are they and where do you find them for sale? How do you use them? Sorry, I'm not familiar with them. Anyone know?
My husband swears that Bach Flowers extracts keep his stress under control, I'll start taking the extracts myself and let you know how it works for me (my results will be biased since I won't stop taking my medication, but let's see if I feel a difference).
Unfortunately, the religious way is directed towards the religious. However, that doesn't mean one religion in particular, but rather the one that works for you. If you want to see what I mean, you can go to the alcohol anonymous (do a search in google) website and check out their "big book". Then check out the "We Agnostics" section, which is chapter 4.
Taking either a Vitamin B Complex, or just Vitamin B12 & B6 really helped me a lot. Vitamin B12 helps your nervous system function properly. Hope this helps. Good luck with your journey.
Definitely a great post! You know, I found help in the most unlikely of places...AA meetings. They go through panic attacks and all we do just the same, but they have a religious way of getting out of it that has so far made me feel pretty good in general.
A little unorthodox, but the method helped me out.
