Hello Rain, nice to meet you. I like your screen name and also your photo.
Welcome to the site. My anxiety used to be 24/7 too but with a few panics here and there... i wasn't even sure what the difference was at first but it would never leave. Lately it has lessened a lot and Things are looking up. I haven't been on medications as long as you but i have been on Lexapro a few years ago and have got off of them and is able to find peace with out them and i believe you can too. So if they do stop working for whatever reason, there are ways to do the things you enjoy to do. Keep writing here and you will learn a lot, or that is what has happened to me.

Rain

Have you tried any thing like this program before? Medication is nothing but a bandaid. It is often necessary to clear the path ways so that you can do CBT. Some who only have mild anxiety can stay on SSRIs for life and function but they will always have to have there crutch to get through life. I gather you are here because you don't want to.

Ok. Now to why you have constant anxiety. It is rather simple. You are mentally blocking the panic from surfacing. But it is there and is going to continually try to surface and you will constantly be in a state of anxiety. The fact that you can keep it from surfacing says you have a very good chance of getting rid of the anxiety and the medication. I tell people that they have to develop relaxation and coping skills. You have developed coping skills but they are wrong. In stead of allowing the panic to surface and using coping and relaxing skills to neutralize it you are burying it only so it can rise again. Over and over again. How bad do you want freedom? How strong are you? Do you have some one to lean on when it gets bad? We will be here for you and we will be glad to have you as part of the group. We will share your successes and failures, you will not go through this alone.

There will be pain and there will be heartache but one day soon you will start to feel different, you will develop a whole different way of looking at things. life won't change it will just become more tolerable and peaceful and one day you will find yourself off the meds and relatively anxiety free. The anxiety you do have left will be the normal anxiety that every one gets. Not this crushing pain day after day.

I won't lie to you. This may be hard and you may get frustrated but you will get cured. It also takes a long time to reverse the damage. But there is nothing there that can not be fixed. This is not a disease but a condition. It only needs to be turned around so it runs right.  Study the program and decide if you can dedicate the time to it. I and the rest of the members will be here for you as will the moderators. Again, you will not be doing this alone.

Welcome to the site.

Davit. Been there and then some.

Hello rain 1999:  Welcome to this site.  Sorry to hear you are going through such a hard time with generalized anxiety.  I know about GAD because I have it too, though not as bad as I used to.  I find the relaxation exercises are what work the best for me.  I hope you stick around and do the CBT course.  I think it is the best for anxiety and panic disorders.  Read past and present posts, you will see how successful it can be.  Good luck and hope you keep posting.  We are here for each other.

p.s. had a girlfriend who never had panic attacks or anxiety.  After gall bladder surgery, she had a panic attack that night in the hospital, so they kept her an extra night.  Weird how it can start.

Hello, this is my first post. I was diagnosed with post partum panic in the hospital after my first child. I thought I was having a heart attack but was told it was a panic attack. They started me on Prozac and Xanax until my Prozac kicked in. That was 11years ago. Since then, I have had two more children while on Prozac. I have tried to go off the Prozac several times over the years but go right back into the same state of anxiety. This year I started feeling the same physical symptoms while on the Prozac and read about "Prozac Poop out". My dr. increased my Prozac. It has been 5 weeks and I am feeling better. I get some headaches but assume it is from the increased dosage of Prozac. It is hard for me to do my homework on this site because no "place or event" gives me anxiety. I know enough about anxiety and panic to talk myself out of having a panic attack but that is little comfort since I have high anxiety 24/7. My anxiety doesn't decrease in 10-30 minutes like a panic attack. It remains constant all day long and is exhausting. It starts with physical symptoms like, feeling dizzy, lump in throat, hard to breathe, tingling of the face. I have these symptoms all day long. It is like my brain releases adren. all day and I constantly have to fight these physical symptoms. I have no idea why I got this after having kids. I had stress before. Example, my mother died when I was 21 and just finished college. That was a very hard time in my life but I didn't get panic attacks. Is it my hormones? Why is this not going away? Does other people have high constant anxiety without actually having panic attacks. I think I have symptom shifting and I read that is good and means you are fighting anxiety but I can never get to the last step and get rid of it. I worry that only medication can help me and what if this med. stops working and I can't find another one to help. Why do I need to stay on medicine?Any suggestions?
