Sunny, I wish you were there too :)

Davit,  My Mom and I took an "Assertiveness Training Course" back in the 70's, because we were both door mats :)  That was a hot topic in America back then.  Everything you said is true.

My daughter has her passport, looks like I need to get one too.  Thank you both for the info.

Shari:  You are fantastic!  Wish I could have been there to see you.  I'm impressed.  As for the passport, yes, I believe you do need one.  I know we need one to go across.

Shari

I do not know if you caught any of the posts on being assertive. This is a fine example. It is not to be confused with aggression. The two are close but one is positive and one is negative. Knowing just who you are and what you are is positive and being able to put it across without raising everyone's dander is positive and will keep panic at bay. On the other hand being aggressive (like the one instructor) is negative and although it might keep panic away for a while it passes it on to those around you and eventually comes back to roost in the form of tension as every one is afraid to be around you. Some thing to think on hey! There is no middle ground between negative and positive, they are close but still one or the other.

I believe that you now do need a passport to cross the border, but it may depend on for how long. There was talk of it.

Your friend
Davit.

I'm starting to feel a sense of boldness that I haven't had since I was a child.  I was painfully shy, but loved animals and was a daredevil of sorts.  I broke a green horse (green, meaning semi wild) with nothing but a rope around his neck.  I rode a barn sour stallion and he broke through a gate and headed for the barn, I jumped off of him and onto a barn beam, so he couldn't kill me in the stall.  I don't know where the childhood invincibility went.  I know not to do something crazy like jump off a cliff without a parachute (not that I would want to do it with a parachute).  But, that curiousity and boldness and fearlessness of a child.  I wrote down things I wish I could do like fly to London, Paris, and Italy.  My daughter is bold and would be able to do it.  I don't know if I would be able to unless someone knocked me out with a frying pan.  I'm just starting to feel normal again like I can try new things and it's really fun, not scary.  The coping skills learned on this program really have gotten me out and more adventurous.  Baby steps and maybe one day I can fly to another country.  My daughter and I want to drive to Ontario, Canada.  I think you need a passport now, I could be wrong.  Maybe that's a good place to start.

I found a free, 2 day, course.  I am now certified in basic shotgun techniques!  I have a diploma :)  I went trap shooting which is clay pigeons shot from a stationary box, in the center of the field.  There were two instructors, one was calm and easygoing.  I crossed my fingers for that teacher.  The other was a young, intense, former Machine Gunnery Sergeant.  The Sergeant announced, "I'll take all the ladies in the class."  Oh well :(  I had a Remington , 20 gage, Semi-automatic.  He asked who wanted to go first, and I yelled, "Me!"  He said, "Go ahead and see if you can hit the target."  I was scared, because I wasn't sure of how much recoil (kick) the gun would have and it was the unknown.  I held the stock against my face and hoped it wouldn't slap me over.  I took a deep breath and yelled, "Pull", the target went flying and I pulled the trigger.  All I remember is seeing a flash of yellow, orange, and red and the smell of gunpowder (which I love so much, I wish they'd make a perfume out of it).  The Sergeant's jaw was agape along with everyone else.  I bull's eyed the clay pigeon and shattered it into a million pieces!  Okay, this is fun.  Sarge said he bet I couldn't do it again and I proved him wrong.  He said no way could I do it three times in a row and I did!  The guy from the other class smiled and came up to me and said, "Thanks a lot.  Now we all have to take a turn, after you."  I went out and bought a Mossberg 20 gage shotgun (I couldn't afford the Semi-automatic) and I bought an ammo pouch.  I went back to use the firing range and drew some attention.  I guess they wanted to see if a girl could shoot.  I expected they thought they would get a good laugh.  I didn't feel any pressure by having an audience.  I was so focused and intent on shooting and I did great.  When my time slot was up, I got a round of applause from the boys.  I've never been a competitive type of person before, but I am definitely now, with this sport; it's a power trip!

Hi Shari:  good going on the chicken coop.  I'm sure you'll design one just right for you.
The jars are showing the crabapple jelly the grandchildren and I made yesterday.  I have a crabapple tree in my backyard.  That's only one batch.  I'm going to make another couple of batches as I give lots away.

Chicken hobby update :)  I've been having fun today sketching hen houses and chicken coop ideas.  I've decided to convert the backyard shed into a coop.  It's going to take some time to complete, but slow and steady wins the race.  Same thing with being successful with this program :)  I'm enjoying the process.
